    RS5 S Tronic Service/Reliability Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone,

Noticed a few weeks ago on the service history that the MTF fluid wasn't listed as one of the consumables used under the 25,000 km service. I reached out to the dealership and we could only conclude the MTF fluid hadn't been changed. Booked an appointment to have this done next week. To note: I wasn't the owner of the car when this service was performed.

On mileage, the car is still below the threshold (if barely - approximately 24,520 km driven), but on time, it's now ten months past due based on the in-service date of the car. It's my understanding the S Tronic in the RS5 is pretty reliable as long as you're following the service intervals strictly. Has anyone experienced a late DSG fluid change? Should I be concerned with the reliability of the transmission moving forward?

    Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly, the first service in the U.S. is at 15K miles so you're not much above that at 24,000 kilometers. There's obviously the time factor as well. What you could do is have the manual gear oil side tested for abnormal particulate content but I would not be overly worried honestly.

No fluid changes for the rear differential, that comes at 35K (both MTF and ATF) just like the gearbox which also has both sides changed at 35K.

No need at all to worry about it being ten months "past-due". The mileage is what's important.

Good catch realizing it hadn't been taken care of during the 25,000 km service!

Thanks for the responses fellas. I may consider having the oil examined at least for peace of mind. I've avoided driving as much as I can until they swap the MTF.

@Ape Factory: Appreciate the reminder that the rear diff requires both the ATF and MTF changed. Something to keep an eye out for on the service history for verification when the time comes. This dealership missed the MTF fluid and brake fluid change at the 25,000 km / 2-year service - a gentle reminder to double check things because people are still only human.

On the topic of the rear diff, and I apologize for going a bit off topic here, but has anyone heard of any more cases of fried diffs?

It's been pretty silent on that front thank goodness. I honestly don't worry about it any longer (but admittedly did when those threads started popping up).

Apologies for reviving this thread but I just got the MTF service done and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills or something but on the service sheet, the code listed for the transmission oil used is G-055-532-A2.

    Isn't that fluid for the A4 and A5 6-speed?

Am I mistaken? I thought the MTF oil was supposed to be G-052-529-A2?

EDIT: I am taking crazy pills. That's S-Tronic specific. Here: http://multitronic-box.com/our-servi...box-repair#oil
