The odo reads 14,800 miles. This is weird for me as I'm used to driving that many miles in less than one year. But I bought right after starting a public transportation commute to the day job, and...the big anomaly here...my wife had a free rental for nine months courtesy of Lexus while she waited for the airbag recall. We put stupid miles on a few different Hyundai Sonatas during that period. Anyway, I've now had two service appointments @ Audi Burlingame. Both were scheduled due to time, rather than miles. Two recall items (emissions software and fuel flange thingie) are the only non-maintenance line items on the receipts.
The mod list was short, and I honestly think I'm done. (Now *that's* weird.) Suspension was a must-do. Wheels & tires weren't until I started lusting after all the pics here. Otherwise...I think I'm good. At least within the gains/dollars spent ratio parameters of real life. I did have the B pillars wrapped in gloss black vinyl. I have ceramic-coated everything but the mufflers...but that was only because I'd lose my detailer card if I didn't. I do occasionally sneak a peek at Brembo goods and GIAC ads, but the temptation meter is way low. Old age creeping up on me, I guess.
Complaints? "Initializing radio." It takes the MMI longer to boot than my first 286 PC, which sometimes raises my blood pressure when all I want to do is switch the audio source. I've been buying new cars since 1992 and it seems odd that a 2016 model would be the first to make me wait to tackle that task. The only other one is the door handle sensors. If I had a nickel for every time I unlocked and opened the rear passenger door to load in my gig bag, and then couldn't open the driver's door because the system assumed I wanted it locked....I could probably pay myself back from contributing to the curse jar. Sigh. Neither problem is huge or significant. In the scheme of things, I'm reaching. This vehicle is awesome.
Looking ahead...I have a basic idea that a 2020 RS5 Sportback might be next. I tend to get wary of Ze Germans as the warranty runs dry, and that timing might work out nicely. On one hand, I'll need to figure out how to transport our dogs. On the other hand, I spec'd my BBS wheels so they'd transfer over with a set of 275/30's. And my wife says I don't plan well for our future.
I leave you with driveway shots from my three major smile milestones. Initial purchase, suspension work, and just recently the wheels & tires. Thanks for the read, and I hope you all love your Q's as much as I do mine.
