    Another idiotic dealer mistake

    Nothing major, but still:

I went out to install 12mm H&R spacers that we had just received on my wife's RS3. It is presently shod with 235/35R19 Pirelli Sottozero 3 winter tires at all four corners. I completed the right side and found it to looked rather good. I then went to work on the other side. Removing the left rear wheel, something felt odd. Looking at the dimension inside, I see that the dealer had installed the 8.5" wide wheel in the rear . I then set to remove the front left to realize that it too was an 8.5" wide wheel. The moronic techs at the dealer, when installing the winter tires, installed the two 8" wheels on the right side and the two 8.5" wheels on the left side . Got a jack stand to be able to have two diagonal wheels in the air, removed the front right wheel (yes, it was an 8") and put everything back where it belonged .

At least I got a happy ending, the car looks great with spacers .

So the wife must have liked how it looked.

Going to require a trip back to correct, those are directional tires and two will need to be flipped. Unless they mounted them correctly and put them on the car wrong which is even worse.

Thanks for pointing this out. I went outside to check, and indeed, the two tires I swapped are now in reverse rotation. I guess we'll just have to accelerate the summer tire install by a week .

My wife called the dealer today. They were very apologetic. They offered to install the summer tires for free. Kudos to them for owning up to their mistake and offering fair compensation.

Reminds me of what happened to most of us getting Focus RS's a few years back. Most dealers (including mine) left the transport spring blocks in the springs and left the tires set at 50 to 60 psi. Boy did I have a fun drive home from the dealer.
