    SMIC Options With Stockish Fitment

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am considering replacing my FMIC with a new set of SMICs to reclaim a more stock appearance with the front end. The FMIC is also pretty beat up and just nasty looking.

I don't want to give up too much flow, heat soak is not too big of an issue as I don't really race the car. Just a few highway pulls for fun now and then.

I'd like to upgrade and avoid having to trim metal. Relocating/removing items is not too big an issue I would just like to avoid cutting into the car.

Are there any options you all can think of that would fit my requirements?

    Thanks

Maybe I'm just drawing a blank but I don't recall trimming any metal, just drilling out some pop-rivets for the AC drier for my SRM install, and those are on the bigger end.

Get SRM v3 side mounts. You have to remove the stock brackets and relocate the accumulator back for the passenger side to fit and also some slight trimming of the radiator support under the headlights. They work very well to keep IAT in check. I have had them on my car for almost 40k without any issues.

    +1 for SRM v3

I had to trim the frame rail slightly on one side to get it to not rub. They are kind of a pain to get in and out during engine pulls, but they are worth it.

I really am trying to avoid cutting into the car but thank you for your opinions.

Price seems good for the SRMs.

If I am moving from a JHM FMIC to an SMIC kit I'd need "stock fit" couplers correct?

I have SRM as well and the trimming for me was minimal. I think AWE doesnt require trimming.

My AWEs did, very minimal but probably similar to the SRMs

No trimming for my AWEs. Not sure if the RS4 front creates any extra room, but i didn't need to move the AC drier

id think you'd need the lower IC charge pipes. The SRM's will come with the top hoses, which are standard 2.25 hump couplers. However, he may be including 2.5 > 2.25 couplers nowadays.

I installed Wagners ... used OEM hoses and didn't have to cut the core support. Fitment is tight, I did have to bend the bottom area of the fender where the bumper attaches a bit.

Srm are probably one of if not the best on the market, that said expect no customer support and 3-12 month wait times. You don't strictly need to trim for them a piece of rubber line on the frame rail will stop the metal on metal rub.
Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

You installed SRM IC's and did not trim anything?

yeah but it its tight and rubs if you don't thats why I suggested the rubber line if you don't want to trim it, but thats more of a band aid and it should be trimmed, also the dryer defiantly needs to be moved. Also I've see someone take a hammer to the frame rail but I would defiantly not recommend that. I wish my friend still had a b5 to take pics, Only have the b6 swap for a reference now but there's more room in those and the SRM's fit with no mods at all.

I trimmed the rad support, left the fenders as is. Aside from the drier bracket I had zero trimming of metal and no banging of the frame rail.

x2 trimming was a lot less than people made it seem.

I didn't need to trim any metal either. I did need to trim some non-metallic areas of the rad support though.

Same. I trimmed only plastic off the front carrier. I didn't trim any metal, nor bash any dents, anywhere.

Can someone post pics of the SRM's installed with NO metal trimming? Lots of mentions but no pics. I have some RS4's that I planned on running for the time being before upgrading but it looks likes a LOT of metal is going to need to be cut. I hate the idea of cutting into the car so if the SRM's are doable without cutting I'll just go that route now. Thanks, guys.
