    Auto start for the TT

So, as far as I know there is no factory auto start option for our cars. I wanted to find out what aftermarket ones people are recommending.

I use to have a DroneMobile autostart and alarm on my S4 when I had it but now moving to the TT I want to hear everyone else’s thoughts.

I would love to hear if anyone has anything like this for the TT also. Someone who’s actually used a specific product would be nice.

It does specifically say in the manual however to not warm up the car by idling. And actually says to start the car and begin driving immediately Albeit slowly to warm it up.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have not read very many success stories from folks who have added an aftermarket remote start to a later model Audi. I've mainly seen where some type of problem exists as a result of doing this. I wouldn't do it. I also believe what was said above....don't let these DI engines sit and idle.

Crazy, guess I should read the manual. In my mind it makes zero sense to start a car and drive it immediately. I will remember that.

I feel the same way I was raised to let the car warm up.

But the oil.... how does it warm up quick enough and protect the motor? So weird. I come from a family of mechanics and this sounds like sorcery. Lol

Once the oil is circulating, which is almost immediately, you're fine to drive off. It's the 21st century and materials technology, to include the recommended oil formulation, has overcome most of the ol' school concerns. I typically wait until my Nav screen loads-displays and then drive off. By the time I progress slowly out of my medium sized development, and another five miles to the highway, it's fully ready to go. But note that even then the oil isn't warm enough to do launches. Coolant does indeed come up to nominal operating temperature far quicker than does the oil.

I do not believe that oil need be warm to protect but rather just present and that the purpose of warmups has always been to insure that the oil has circulated to all of the nooks and crannies which with older single grade oils was much more of an issue that with today's multi-grade oils. The viscosity of oil actually decreases with temperature. The oil recommended for our car is 5-30W which has the least change of viscosity with the change of temperature of all oils show on this chart:

FWIW, when I had a BMW 335i twin turbo, the amount of boost was limited until the oil reached a certain temp (like 170, not something crazy). I have no link to attribute this to, just a comment (and my own observation at the time) made by Terry Burger back in 2008-2009 when he was first developing the JuiceBox.

Same with the Lexus 5.0L engine - essentially ECU-controlled limp mode until appropriately warmed up.

I had a Viper SmartStart in my MK2 TTRS and loved it. Never had an issue with it. I got it because I travel for work and hated getting into a frozen car at the airport during the winter. With the SmartStart I would just start the car as I was landing.

We also have one in our RS5, also no issues. I have not looked yet on putting it into the MK3 TTRS
