AZ I’ve searched on google and YouTube with no results. Anyone have the downpipes with stock exhaust on their 3.0T? A sound clip would be greatly appreciated!

I had it for a while before i got the full setup and went back to stock downpipes. There is a lot more rasp at the upper RPM's. No drone though.

So you currently have AWE exhaust with stock down pipes?

Yup. Initially my friend had the AWE touring with non-res downpipes and wanted to have my stock downpipes. thats why I had the non res downpipes on stock exhaust. last year he wanted to trade in his S4 for an RS so I just took his AWE touring and my stock downpipes back.

Its a cool upgrade but I wouldn't spend the money just on the downpipes. If you guys want I can post a video of how it did sound. Will need to look at my videos on the phone.

I am doing downpipe only because the performance gains for changing the rest of the exhaust is minimal. Now if you are going for strictly sound I agree change the rest of exhaust.

Thank you for sharing! I can hear a slight difference. But i think it’s too subtle for the $650 price tag

Its definitely more noticeable in real life but only after 5000RPM or so. Again, I would NOT purchase these for a sound improvement.

Got it. Thanks for the inputs everyone. I have a 2013 S5 and posted the same question but didn’t get any response. So I’m very glad i was able to get some answers from S4 owners. I have the the AWE touring exhaust with 102mm tips shipping back to me tomorrow so I will just install that and keep my stock down pipes. I remove the exhaust because the welding at the mid muffler came apart while i was driving so I sent it back to have AWE reweld it. I was told that my case was unusual as the factory welds never come apart like that. Bad luck i guess. 🤷*♂️

I had the full set up non res dps and touring when I purchased the car but found it to be obnoxiously loud. Figured i would either run non res DPs with stock exhaust or stock DPs and touring. But no way I would be running the full set up again. It’s my daily driver and i just couldn’t live with the drone on the highways with the full AWE set up.

Agreed. I didn't even bother trying the non-res DP + awe touring. Even the AWE touring with stock downpipes has some drone which can be annoying.

Its all personal opinion. I just installed AWE non res down pipes + AWE touring and find it to be the perfect setup. Not at all obnoxious but still very aggressive.

Sound preference is definitely subjective ; with that said I think the 3.0T is one of the worst engines when it comes to drone.

I’ve ran every exhaust combo, starting with

#1 non-res DPs and stock mufflers. This was definitely the most conservative setup, and I was very happy with this for the longest time. I ended up moving on from this because I wanted a little more sound. The sound clip with this setup was never worth it, you only heard a difference at WOT.

#2 next i went full retard and paired my non-res with awe track exhaust; that did not last a week. The S4 sound like a Honda rolling down the street.

#3 Next i got awe touring exhaust with the non-res. This sounds nice but was still more drone than I wanted. I’m believe most people would like this the most.

#4 Now I have touring with stock DPs and I’m sticking with this setup. There’s definitely drone, but it’s okay to live with. I’ve learned to keep the rpms out the drone zone; it’s not too hard with the 6MT.

This is exactly the review i was looking for! Unfortunately I have the AT so it’s gonna be hard to keep it out of the “drone zone” unless I’m constantly in Dynamic or paddle shifting. Thanks for help
