MH Pipes (German made) 200 cell Cats / Race pipes on Ebay

Anyone had a go at these? I like that they retain somewhat the OEM volume to help with resonance, and that they are a metal catalyst. Quality looks to be top notch, and the price is good too.

I went to a high flow cat and a full exhaust system all at once so it's hard to say what exactly cause what, but my volume even through a high flow cat, a small resonator and a a larger rear muffler is super loud. About the loudest I'd ever want. and occasionally I wish for quieter.

Link works now. Looks pretty nice and good price too. Hopefully get some reviews on them and how they compare vs other aftermarket ones out there.

What exhaust are you running? I’m about to replace my clutch and possibly run test pipes instead of HFC with my AWE track

There hasn't been a proven HFC out there yet (JHM pending) Would be awesome if they work out, my test pipes with Borla exhaust is so loud and raspy at certain rpms. I'm sure some HFC's would clean it up

I've looked into the Tampa catted race pipes too. My thought is that if I'm going to spend the $ to take the stock cats out I don't want to put any other cat back up in there. The current location adds too much risk to the cost of the potential future repair. That said, these pieces look great.

I also don't want to spend $400 for test pipes which are essentially simple tubes with flanges. I'm considering having my stock cats gutted and installing the JHM catted x-pipes to those. That way I don't have to buy test pipes to replace the cats which can easily be made to serve the same purpose. If the JHMs fail they'll at least be in a place that's easy to get at.

I’m running Tampa high flow cats into the milltek valvesonic exhaust system. Valve closed is very loud. Valve open is well.... very loud, lmao. My car is in the bodyshop right now for a front end collision and when I get it back I’m adding a center resonator that milltek offers.

Do you have video of that set up? I’m getting a valved exhaust and thinking of hfc but if it’s ridiculously loud when valves are closed then may have second thoughts.

Thanks. I may consider replacing the track with touring w/ x-pipes if it’s too crazy loud

I would caution all that these may not work on our us left hand drive cars, with a swapped steering column the brackets for cats/test pipes are in different locations.

Good call. I've PM'd the guy on FB to ask that question. If I get a response I'll post it here. Seems to be a one man shop in Germany. Dude has some serious welding skills.

The overall size/diameter of the catalyst section looks very small compared to stock. Also, neither left nor right pipes seems to make any accommodation for a steering column at all. I'm wondering if that means that they are small enough to avoid the steering column regardless of drive side (?).

The cats are 100mm in diameter. How large are the stock ones?

Was able to PM the owner Marcel on their FB page (also MH Pipes). Here's what he had to say, if others have more questions I encourage you to reach out to him yourself...

    - Left hand drive is fine, pipes work in either application and virtually any 3.0 TFSI
    - Quoting him here... "So, I've been building the downpipes for 3 years without a really big incident. I sold about 150 sets. we once heard of a problem. the customer had a problem with his engine (software conditional) because the kat has melted. but otherwise they are all very happy with the products. I've already sent to America, Spain, Russia, Australia ....... and much more
    - He's a one-man operation currently building these as he goes. Unclear if he has any available for purchase. He says the best way to buy is by contacting him on FB, he didn't confirm price through that channel.
    - He builds custom exhausts for most German cars, including BMW, VW, Mercedes.

Weird, reached out directly and it’s the same price as eBay and shipping was higher. So much cheaper on eBay on coupon days (15% ones), which rarely happens that evilbay is cheaper (considering seller fees). A bit disappointed there, kind of put me off to see that.

Tampa Auto high flow cats with a milltek res exhaust is perfect in my opinion. Its not really that loud at all. At times I actually wish it was a little louder.

If I would have kept mine, I was likely going to go with Tampa Auto's high flow system. I will be in their area in a couple weeks and wouldn't mind stopping by there to check them out. I wonder if anyone down there has an S4 running them.

Strongly considering these since apparently Tampa Autosport doesn’t make them anymore!

Keep in mind that materials have to be ordered then made. DHL Paket is used as carrier which takes extra long. Ordered May 4th and still waiting to receive it as it is in transit.

Evan (from Tampa Autosports) posted on the B8/B8.5 technical FB group that even the high flow cats he was making have failed.
I am not saying these will fail as well, but being in the OEM location they are subject to the same punishment.
Moving the cats further downstream maybe the only solution, but there hasn't been a whole lot of people that have done this just yet.

I had the first round JHM hi-flow cats and they failed and so we gutted them into test pipes - effectively - and put the GESI (vibrant) 200 cell metallic cats further down but before the x-pipe on the Corso RSC exhaust. I’d actually been running the stock exhaust for the last 6 months and only got round to putting the cats in and my god, it removed all of the test pipe rasp but kept all of the throaty and crackly sound which I hadn’t had since I removed the cats.

I’ve literally tried 10 expensive combinations of exhaust parts, magnaflow, part stock, half Corsa RSC but no matter what you do if you remove the cats altogether you have a rasp issue... so I highly recommend the GESI cats for both a high flowing option and sound resonance, the JHM ones were f’ing useless and ceramic

Also putting test pipes in and putting the cats further down will save you so much grief on future issues, takes 6/7 hours to get any cat-pipes out of these cars and re-installed

so just to confirm, it goes liek this?
engine, manifolds, test pipes, cats in downpipes (did these replace the resononators?), x-pipe, center muffler/resonator, 2 rear mufflers?

I’d actually been running the stock exhaust for the last 6 months and only got round to putting the cats in and my god, it removed all of the test pipe rasp but kept all of the throaty and crackly sound which I hadn’t had since I removed the cats.

I’ve literally tried 10 expensive combinations of exhaust parts, magnaflow, part stock, half Corsa RSC but no matter what you do if you remove the cats altogether you have a rasp issue... so I highly recommend the GESI cats for both a high flowing option and sound resonance, the JHM ones were f’ing useless and ceramic

Also putting test pipes in and putting the cats further down will save you so much grief on future issues, takes 6/7 hours to get any cat-pipes out of these cars and re-installed
    any pics ?

Got mine today. Not sure if I will put them on yet given the recent issues with Tampa (these are MH Pipes ones) and how hfc impacts a valved exhaust in terms of sound. Trying not to make my exhaust too loud.
