    Bad luck

So today i had my brother get into the front passenger seat of my 2013 audi a4. When he closed the door something suprising happened. The glass/mirror from the passenger side mirror housing fell off and shattered on the ground. I'm not very superstitious but i know that a broken mirror is bad luck. Interesting because in the last couple months I haven't had the best luck with my car. Bad wheel bearing, fuel injector failed, snow caused my splash shield to come loose and drag on the ground while exposing my fuel lines to debri. Anyway after only owning this car for 13 months im starting to think about selling it. I've enjoyed it but I'm a little scared of what else might go wrong. I've been looking for a mark 7 gti 4 door and the 2015 models at pretty tempting price points now. I had plans on getting new rims and installing h&r coilovers but idk if it's worth it anymore is it time to let old reliable go after a year?

I'm not sure that list is all that bad. I'm driving in the same snow you are. I'd guess that splash shield wasn't on there right. Lots of people lose hard ware and don't replace it. Can't blame Audi for that. A wheel bearing and a bad fuel injector? Not too bad for a European car. How many miles?

It has 60k miles right now. I bought it last march with 42k. I got an apr stage 1 tune with an 91/e85 tune also have a cold air intake. When the splash shield came off i was merging onto the innerstate during a snow storm so not a surprise there i know

You can find new base GTIs for ~$20k if you are willing to travel.

We have a DSG GTI and I love it. It is more fun than my old B8.5 S4, but not quite as much fun as the 911

There is no such thing as bad luck. No matter how much you think this is possible. It's a way to explain the UN-explainable.

    Shit happens to european cars.....

Want to talk about bad luck?
    - Hit black ice in my Stage 2+ Golf R (2 months into ownership) and slid into a guardrail around 10-12MPH ($13k in damage)
    - Moved from behind a semi into the right line and ran into a spare tire in the lane at 85mph..couldn't see anything in the right line because of the semi in front of me ($6k in damage)

Neither could I have avoided... .

Bought a porsche and the suspension, brakes/rotors, evap system, throttle body failure, all went bad within 6 months of ownership ( $5k in maintenance) even after having a PPI done.

Bottom line is shit happens. Don't own a european car unless you have spare cash at all times to throw at it. I am on my 14th car in 10 years (9 being european)

I started with a Passat and constantly had problems with coolant leaking, eventually lead to a blown engine (the side mirror fell of that car because heated mirror setting was always on and caused adhesive to give), then moved to Audi and had a b7 for 200k miles not one problem besides maintenance in the chain tensioner, sold that for a b8.5 with 10k now at 60k miles and still running solid. Might seem like common sense to some but since my Passat I have babied these cars and gone over and above on maintenance and it seems to help (knock on wood), also I bought the Audi/vw Schwaben reader which is a nice tool for someone like me who spooks at any all random engine noises

    I had a B8.5 S4 and would absolutely choose a GTI + $30k.
