    Q5 Calipers powder coated....what now?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got my Q5 calipers in and dropped them off at the powder coater. Now I understand I will need to rebuild them. I am shocked at how clueless I am with this and frustrating myself trying to find an exact answer as to what I need to go ahead and buy. I've been quoted as high as $500 and I know that isnt right. I read on the other thread people have paid as low as $30 for the seals. I just don't know. haha My flame suit is on for being an idiot

Can't your old seals be re-used? The ones you took off the calipers

I guess if you have everything off might as well go with a rebuild, just didn't think it was necessary if everything looked good.

If you get them powder coated you will definitely need new seals for sure. Once I found that out I opted to get mine painted instead. Didn't want to take apart a brand new caliper

Looks great man! I definitely thought about just painting, but got a great deal on the powdercoat.

Sure thing. I'm planning on buying used Q5 calipers so I looked up the seal kits. Do these just bolt over the stock rotors then or is the offset different?

If you took apart brand new calipers for powder, your seals should be fine if they came out without damage. I reused the seals on the brand new Q5 calipers I tore down for powder, and my brakes work without issue. If you break down calipers after use though, you will definitely want new seals.

just found this guide as well for anyone who needs help taking these apart: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/How+to+...quipment/55330
