    2013 S6 CEL Codes - NOT a blown turbo :)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got a CEL two days ago and car is in the independent shop today. Just purchased the car a month ago, and fortunately also purchased an extended warranty.

During the PPI they noted the P14AB code (exhaust flap valve) which was intermittent. Cleared, didn't think anything of it.

    Now, the car has the
    P14AB code
    and the
P0491/P0492 codes - Secondary air injection bank 1/2. I believe this is causing the CEL. Independent is calling the dealer to see what to do next.

Anyone have any experience with these? S4 forums noted carbon buildup issue, although I have not heard of this in S6.

I was literally just about to purchase EPL tune too - glad it's not blown turbos and also glad that I didn't do anything (yet) to void warranty

Have them check your ECU software version, if it's 0007 or older, then it could be this TSB, fix is to replace secondary air pump motor and update ECU to version >0008.
DTC is different from a regular P0 Trouble Code.

    TSB 2036558:

One of the following DTCs is stored in the engine control module (ECM), J623 (address word 01):
    • DTC P244000 (Secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open - Bank 1)
    • DTC P244200 (Secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open - Bank 2)

    Technical Background
ECM software adjustment of the secondary air pump motor (V101) runtime during the diagnosis phase.

    Production Solution
    ECM software update.

    Service
Replace the secondary air pump motor (V101) and update the ECM software.

    SVM Update Instructions
    1. Follow all instructions in TSB 2011732: 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.
    2. Update the ECM software (J623) using the SVM action code as listed in the table below, if necessary

So just talked to shop - they think it is a secondary cylinder issue as the pump is working fine. Aargh... may need to open her up to do a cleaning. Anyone had any issues with a similar problem? I know that carbon buildup could be an issue, but have yet to hear of anyone developing codes for it. My S6 has 64K miles, just bought it less than 500 miles ago! Weird thing is that car was serviced at dealer all the time - and no history of any of this on the sheet.

Did the dealer get you sorted, hanyoung?

I'm throwing P0491/P0492 on my 2013 S6 as well, with similar mileage (79k).

I get the loud "jet engine" sound on start up for ~5-10 seconds. Clear codes, and they come back on every cold startup (along with the noise).

Likely unrelated, but I also have the terrible sputtering/misfire feel at low RPM's (1200-1500).

    Cheers!

Sorry about the delay! Codes cleared after dealer checked electrical connection of pump. So far no more codes or problems! I do occasionally hear a rattle on acceleration in cold weather. Not sure what that is - maybe pcv but no codes. I’m also loving epl beta tune.
