I believe the timing chain issue plaqued us!!!!

So i am having the engine looked at today.

My question is that if they have the motor down and replacing the timing components on it should I gut the piggies? not going to do anything else to the exhaust just the piggies while they have the motor out.

It's a 2008 S4 convertible, thoughts has anyone done this on a convertible is it to loud?

any advice would be greatly appreciated

Doing piggie pipes isn’t going to make your car extremely loud. That and if it’s a manual it’s like a 20 minute job to take them off gut the pre car and put it back in.

Sounds the same to me so I wouldn’t worry . Isn’t like you’re taking both out and a catback

That was my car when I had the BHF in gutted downpipes to a corsa catback . That was loud if you worry about being loud

Ok so we believe it to be a tensionor we are looking at about a 5-7k repair on the car. Thinking of ditching it our mechanic said they would give us 5k for it at is. book on it is like 6500 in the middle on trade. Looking for feed back.

The timing job is no cheap feat. That being said, I wouldn't pay 5k for one that needed timing done if the value was only 6500...

How is the blue book only 6500 on a 08? Or is that without a working engine?

It’s the trade value selling price is 12 to 10k but if he will give us 5 with out doing work we are out from it I would t expect to get any more than 7 on a trade!

I’d take $5k for my b6 w/ running engine (needs timing and AC compressor) and $135k miles.

    I’d take that $5k and move onto a b7 rs4. Or b8 or 8.5 S model w/ v6. Just my opinion.

Ok I thought so. Well that's a tough one. I wouldn't expect much more than 7 on a trade. Recently a member got 9 for his that needed timing done. Crazy evaluation if you ask me.
10-12k sounds reasonable for a listing price. I guess it all depends on how much you like the car. 2 grand in parts and you can sell it for 10-12.
I'd take the 5 and upgrade to a less problematic platform

Dont forget to get both RS4 upgraded guides when you do your timing service.
