Car died while driving - unplugged MAF to get runing

Hi guys,

As the title states, I was driving to work this morning when my B6 S4 suddenly died. I pulled over to check what was going on. The car would start, but not idle.

After some Google searching, I eventually unplugged the MAF and got the car running.

I guess my question is, should I be looking at anything other than replacing the MAF. It seems obviously that this is the culprit, but you never know.

Plus my XP laptop has recently decided to stop charging, so I no longer have my Rosstech to run diagnostic checks.

I run RossTech on a Win10 machine in compatibility mode. You could also run a VM like VirtualBox if you have a spare machine around.

As for the MAF, I would try cleaning it first. Watching this to see if anyone else has suggestions.

Check all air flow connections after maf.

Check if the MAF boot popped off the throttle body? I have had that happen to me before and it would start but not run with the MAF still plugged in because of the massive air leak with unmetered air coming in past the MAF. I unplugged the MAF and drove home because I didn't have tools to fix that with me.

Just wondering, how are your engine mounts? If they are worn or broken then the engine can move around enough to cause the MAF boot to come off under hard acceleration.

Engine mounts changed to 034 some time ago and no intake leaks I can find. I will clean the MAF prior to ordering a replacement.

My old laptop miraculously starting working at the repair shop (made me look like an idiot) anyway, I'll be able to read my codes this weekend.

So was it the MAF after all, and did you just clean it or replace it?
