How often do Hitachi mafs fail ? Car drives better with it unplugged means it's bad most likely ?

Means you most likely have a boost leak. Unmetered air gets into the system (post maf, pre TB) which the maf sensor is not accounting for. Once you unplug it, the car goes into open loop. Could be a bad maf, but most of the time it's a boost leak. Pressure testing is the only way to find out. Looking and wiggling hoses won't tell you anything unless the problem is glaringly obvious.

Ive done a boost leak test already had 1 leak on the wastegate line but that was fixed. I didn't find any other leaks but I also notice that the issue is kinda sporadic (boost leak wouldn't be) so I'm suspecting could be the sensor or maybe even the wiring to it since it's converted to Hitachi

Just log the MAF... that’ll tell you if it’s bad.

With a stock MAF setup you should see 200-210g/s at some 3000 RPM building to 240 to 270 g/s from 5000 to 7000 RPM
The higher figures are typical for an aggressive Stage-II tune.

    I see 247 g/s , 2nd gear pull, does that mean it's reading quite low for a stage 3 awe ?

What's your altitude where you live and what's the ambient temp when you logged the data? Air density plays a huge role in MAF readings.

Yes, I know, tune up in a can is not the usual course of action here but this has straightened out the last coupla MAF codes I've had: https://www.amazon.com/CRC-05110-Mas...+cleaner+spray

Oh yeah, and replacing the throttle boot.

I would go so far as to suggest you clean the MAF whenever you change Air filters. Or something...

You either have a boost leak or big vacuum leak. The car running worse is actually indicating the maf is working.
It’s overcompensating for the extra unmetered air.
