Considering a RS4 near Cincinnati - PPI suggestions, eyes on car and opinions

    Hi All,

I'm looking at a stock 2008 RS4 sedan near Cincinnati that has just under 80k on it. It is a one owner car, good maintenance history, recent DRC rebuild, oil cooler lines replaced and appears to be in decent shape. Few rock chips, one of the door blades has a ding so may need to be repainted or replaced, one rim with rash. It has always been maintained at Audi Cincinnati East. I live in MA and asked the Audi dealership about getting a PPI done and they said they don't do PPI's. Not being that close, its not that easy for me to just swing by and check the car out so would like to get a PPI done and get some neutral eyes on the car. Does anyone know of any good Audi shops that know RS4's and could do a PPI? It would be nice to have someone take a look at the car, see what the condition in person is like and take a look under it to see the shape of everything (it has been used as a daily and seen winters so I want to make sure its not a rusted mess).

Finally, what are your thoughts on buying a car with 80k on it? I've read a number of posts about the robustness of the motor but that things get expensive when needing to be replaced. I think it will need a carbon clean (only one was done at 25k), new front rotors in probably 10-15k miles and I'm concerned about the clutch since it is the original one. I want to make sure it is not exhibiting any of the stickiness that I've read about. Not sure if injectors or spark plug coils will need to be replaced at some point too. Finding lower mileage ones is getting harder and they command a good price.

    Thanks!

    - Bill

80k is low miles.. what are hey asking? What color? What trim package?

I just bought a 147k mile RS4.. carbon clean, injectors, new front rotors and pads.. drives like a champ.

These cars require maintenance and upkeep like any other high end euro sports car, but overall are very stout. And to can’t beat the looks.

I think this is a great time to pick up an RS4. Aunt getting much cheaper!

It is Silver with the Premium package. They are at $25k. I'm always concerned about resale and if someone will want a 100k+ mile car. Your testimony says yes :) I'd imagine a clean history and good maintenance records is key.

Yeah maintenance is key.. the fact your car is a one owner car is great.

    That’s a good price.

With clean title and a documented maintenance history I would be comfortable buying that car without a PPI. Assuming of course you go look at it in person and not showing any obvious signs of major problems.

I'm pretty sure I know what car your speaking about, I spoke with Skip a few times prior to buying a different RS4. As far as I could tell that seemed like a pretty good option although it's been for sale for quite a while.

I don't have any personal experience with Dubwerx but know of them and they have a good reputation. Good luck!

I wouldn’t buy a car without a PPI. Why risk it?
If everything is in good order, sounds like a decent price.

80k miles is not high by any means. Also, if you are afraid of 100k+ mile resale, I traded my RS4 with 104k miles in to a VW dealer and they gave me $25k. That was their buy it price as well, it was not dependent on if i bought a car from them. I bought that car with 94k miles. It had great maintenance history and was well cared for, so miles do not concern me one bit.

If I were you I would get any available records and review them, then find a local Audi/VW shop and have a PPI done. Dubwerx in Cincinnati is good choice, I have heard a lot of good things about them.

    Or.....

If you don't mind one with 104k miles, you can go buy my old one lol its still at the dealer in Louisville. I have stacks of records for it.

I would definately go ahead with the PPI, I bought mine a few months ago from a (non Audi) dealer in Chicago, 65K and Silver. The PPI showed that the control arms needed changing and thanks to that I managed to reduce the price in 2K. All the other items like a full tune up (spark plugs and coils replacement), carbon clean up and all fluid changes is something I knew I would be doing independent of past maintenance being good or not and this is something you should probably evaluate in your initial costs if you’re considering that RS4. As others have mentioned 80K is not high but I would also look into getting an extended warranty, mine for example had a cost of about 4.5K for 60K/6 years of coverage. Good luck

That’s a hell of a good deal on a trade in. Well done.

I didn't. I came very close but I just couldn't make buying at distance work out with my schedule. I've looked at a few more including a very nice low mileage one near me but it just more money than I want to spend.

The dealer in Louisville that bought mine still has it. I can personally guarantee it has been meticulously maintained; new clutch, carbon clean, axles, new cam seals, and a lot more all with the documentation. I can't believe they haven't sold it.
