    Codes, turbo, and other problems....sigh

    Hey Audiziner's,

So I don't post often but I am a lurker of these forums. anyway, a couple of days ago, me and a friend were running our cars i.e. quarter miles, running launches, etc. after the whole session, my friend who had plugged in a code reader to diagnose the information bout the car, he showed me some interesting things that idk about.

1)I have a CEL which mechanics told me not to worry bout but figure worth looking at. I had this code "P0171-powertrain system too lean (bank 1)". The reader he used showed it was yellow so it wasn't serious unless it was red. Now this came up when I had the engine swamped out for a new one after my old engine blew up from oil spills. anyway, he cleared the code and bout 30 kilometers later from the clear, it came back again. pretty sure there are threads on it but I think mine is different from those threads on account of the next few problems.

2)He tested out my boost which had an abnormal reading. The average boost was 14psi but it had spiked to 24 psi which I think indicates a turbo leak but I'm not sure.

3)on the way home after the session, I was hearing my engine making rattling sounds on the driver side of the car which I never heard before. At first I thought it was my brakes scratching my rims as they are stock and were cooling down after being used. When I took out the car to use later and in the past few days (specially cold mornings), I can clearly hear the rattling till it warms up and when I launch the car, after it, its rattling the entire drive so that has me worrying bout that.

    4) The rpm surges till it warms all the way up to 90C. I'm quite aware threads have started for this but I was never clear bout the problem.

    5) On Cold mornings and at anytime at a stop/idle, the exhaust will be rattling every time which has getting annoying recently. Only solution I had to it was to slightly rev the engine a little bit and it would stop shaking.

    6) on rainy days when I have to wipe the windshield, the wipers won't do the job correctly, leaving like 2 water marks on the windshield as it wipes. before, it stopped working and my Dad did his best repairing it as he was previously a garage co-owner/mechanic till he got stabbed in the back by his partner( hence why some of this has to be done by other mechanics with the tools so assume he has above average knowledge on cars).

So yea, these are the problems I've been experiencing on my A4 b7.on the day of the session, engine had been running for 2 and a half hour which the car warned me via flashing that info in the odometer display thing. I'll list every detail I can think of bout the car that may be relevant to the questions.

    -A4 '07
    -2.0 turbo
    -Automatic trans with tiptronic
-Bought late January '17 at 140k
    -APR stage 1 since mid November-ish. 150k
-BillyBoat exhaust Cat-less (I doubt that) mid September. 145k
-Niche Missano M116 17" inch rims. same as exhaust.
-Carbonio air intake February. 160k (was cleaned upon arriving. missing one bolt but that's on top however, it is not connected to the car at the bottom so it shakes a little).
    -ECS Turbo dump March. 164k
-engine swap in December at 160k ish, new one with 140k. turbo taken from old engine and replaced the intake in the engine which was broken and leaking oil

Now a bit bout my dirivng style if that may or may not affect it.

-I daily drive it bout 5k to and from
-cuz its auto with cai, I occasionally let go of the gas and back on it during shifts to mimic the sound one would get from a manual and for the sound.
-slightly aggressive acceleration with shifting at 2.5-3.5k on drive, 3-4.5k shifts on Sport mode.
-on all cold mornings and mornings, never turned on the ac and always slowly sped to 30km/h till it passed 60C on temperature.
-push the car every now and then (flooring it or 3/4 of the way) at least twice a week, be it from the light or to get ahead of annoying traffic.

on the day of the session; as it may be worth noting; I was "driving" on a very aggressive hill with steep inclines and declines with sharp turns for two runs and bout 5 runs flooring it with 2 runs testing the info.

Thnaks for taking ur time reading thru this list as I tried to be as detailed as possible and I appreciate anyone who can give me help, thanks again!

P.S. is there anyone with a cruise control stalk that they are selling? Mine's gave out recently. living in Toronto, Ontario so better if closer to me.

might need a muffler company to try to rig your exhast system to stop rattling

so basically, I needed an oil change and it was running low. Rather spend money to get it changed, my dad did that himself at night so some of the oil had spilled onto the engine itself as he told me. Next day, an oil pressure warning came up before the engine had given up on life.

I guess so but in the beginning it was perfectly smooth and wouldn't be rattling

yea, what I meant with stabbed in the back was that he was betrayed by the his co-owner of the garage, guess I used the wrong term to explain that, my bad. I have now edited that part

I didn't say the intake was leaking, the car was, most likely an oil pan leaking or maybe that filter in the engine might be broken again

yea, I guess its my DD with track racing, but not track racing tho haha, that's on the track. its more over the case that if I "feel" like flooring it or givin it a little gas, I do so but its normally either short distances or just at an intersection where I don't want to get stuck behind some driver who puts make-up first, and driving next to last of their priorities while on the road

Yah what's the question besides the lean code? The lean code indicates you probably have a boost leak somewhere hence why it runs lean. Your turbo is requesting so much boost. Get a boost gauge installed. Peak 24 psi is impressive without a tune, which could indicate a faulty wastegate which doesn't open to leak off boost. This could be the second reason for the lean code. Pull the spark plugs to see how black they are. Your MAF might be crappy as well. For the rattle sound, I would also look into a heat shield getting lose and vibrating against the exhaust.
