Looking for horsepower that won’t break the bank

Anybody have suggestions on how to get some extra horsepower out of my b6 1.8t? It’s stock at the moment but I’m looking for ways to start puttin some power into it. Preferably something I can do myself. I’m pretty mechanically inclined but I don’t have all the tools for big jobs. .

the 1st best thing for power is a tune....and if you care to hear, Motoza has a $350 stage 1 tune that really wakes the 1.8 up. You can go the bolt on route and gain a little bit but you'll be disappointed without a tune. Lots of other guys here will tell you the same thing.

Ecstuning.com they are also running a 10% sale on APR tunes. (Ship and chip) I have the APR tune and I like it a lot. It’s supposed to be one of the more conservative tunes out there. The problem with APR (I found this out after the fact) you can’t really run anything bigger than a KO4 unless you purchase their stage 3 kit. Which is like $5k brand new. If you’re looking to go big turbo down the road save the money and get something like eurodyne ($800). You can virtually do anything you want with that tune. As long as you’re running the supporting mods of course. I have a buddy using eurodyne and he got all his turbo parts from pagparts.com. This company is legit but you’ll be spending like $4k with a setup from them. This includes everything you would need besides internals. So my buddy has a 04 GTI 1.8t transverse of course and with his setup he is putting about 500whp and a little less torque. It really all is what you want to do. If you want the best bang for your buck and not worried about the future then I would get a tune from GIAC, APR, Motoza or something similar.

Also, all of this info is on the forum and you can find it easy by searching. Don’t forget to do that but glad you’re asking and want to be informed. That is a very good thing to seek knowledge which there is a wealth of on this forum. Good luck and you can message me anytime with questions! I’d be more then happy to reply.

What should I ask Arnold for as far as these stock block turbo set ups because I payed him a visit and he seemed adamant about having a big turbo set up would need full internals and I hear here that there are turbo set ups I can buy from him that are stock block friendly or maybe I just didn’t voice my self the right way
