This should spark some input...RS3 Ugly compact

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am confused by the mouth foaming desire for the new RS3. Don’t people care about car styling anymore? Seems like as long as it goes fast it’s acceptable to buy a 50-70k (assumed mods) for a squished compact car. What does everyone else think? Maybe I’m old school and appreciate older designs.

I am with you not thrilled by the styling at all. I would go for the TTRS instead, since I have zero use for back seats. O and its faster than the RS3, LOL

They are too small for me. Same reason I went with an S4 over an S3.

I'm right there with you. I'll even add another unpopular opinion that the A7/S7/RS7 is stupid looking, EXCEPT for then the rear spoiler is popped up (S7/RS7 only) in which case it looks 'just ok'. Large, oafy, droopy-ass looking cars. But way more expensive so it must be desirable.

Sorry not trying to be a hater but read a TON of threads about RS3 last couple days. I wanted to like it as I’m getting ready for a new car. I am bias of course but I will keep my B8 S4 forever, I really like every aspect of it. I drove the RS3 and RS7 as of late...don’t know if I like the style of either.

Generally agree with you but overall I don't mind the exterior styling... like it a hell of a lot more than the face on the new S5... those buldges on the hood and braces are vomit inducing, lol

Otherwise the engine is of course epic... where the new RS3 really missed the mark for me is the interior styling... blah...

the 2.5 has some serious potential with a bigger turbo. I'm sure you guys all seen the youtube/facebook guy, destroying exotics.

I do like the exterior styling, but yes it was too small when I considered the s3. And the Front biased AWD system turned me away.

    Well
#1, your opinion on the styling is an opinion which means absolutely nothing to the next guy/gal.
#2, the car is beautiful IMO, see how useless that opinion is now?
#3, if it wasnt 60k, I would have bought one instead of the b8 I am in now. I think the B8 is too big. a few years ago we were in a B7/B6 and that was a good size. The new A3 is about that size, maybe a little smaller/bigger here and there, but overall similar to the b5/b6/b7 chassis and size. Was it too small for you then?
#4, AMGs car is similarly priced, the M2 is similarly priced. What more do you need?
#5, are you just old and dont understand that things cost more then when you were dreaming about them in the 90s??

Hes 6 foot 5 the rs3 was never a option for him he just felt the need to make a thread to bash it since hes upset he cant fit in one.

That's funny, I really like that body, it surprises me that some people don't. Everytime I see an A7/S7 I feel like I want one. I get it though, people like/dislike different things. Thank goodness.

Oh man, I wasn't even thinking about the A5/S5 SportBack body shape. Hurts my eyes. The trunk is very spacious, though. I understand the utility of it. But if I'm stuck in an auto transmission hatchback I'd probably go SQ5.

Got to sit in an RS3 at AoA HQ. Was not very impressed with the interior, manual seats, dated pop up nav screen etc. Still an A3 at heart. Lacks a lot of the new tech in the B9 S4 and above which is a big factor for me. Performance is amazing but I would still take my B8 S4 over it, it also looks better.

They are a bit smaller, but the cabin is similar in size. To me, the S3 looks a LOT better than the S4.

You also need to take into account the times the RS3 can run. At the 034 drag strip day, IIRC, a lightly modded RS3 was deep into the 11's.

They are too small for me. Same reason I went with an S4 over an S3.
Exactly my thoughts (coming from a guy with a s5 and no back seat) lol

Forget how the RS3 looks, why doesn’t it come in a 6MT? I still like the cars, but what the actual F?

Think the 7 is gorgeous, and the curves grafted on that body to make the A/S5 fastback are butt-ugly.

I agree with all of your points.
Hahahahaaa...I was waiting for at least one person to disagree. I’d post the same way if someone said the B8 S4 is ugly. As far as opinions mattering...I often agree with my opinions so they rank high to me . I know the car is quick but I stand strong...it’s ugly.

I have been shopping and couldn’t wrap my head around the design. It’s not that I wanted to bash...it was fresh on my mind

If it goes like snot, people tend to overlook some deficiencies whether cosmetic or otherwise. Others will be charmed by the fact that Audi actually deemed North America actually worthy to get an R designated car. No one makes anyone like or buy the car. It's not designed for everyone to like it. But I bet they won't have units sitting on the lots for long.

Because Audi thinks there are not enough buyers out there that want a MT to make it profitable to build one. Or won't buy one because it doesn't have a MT. Figure that buyers will be happy just to get an R car. Similar thinking goes into why we don't get the S4 avant in NA.

    This.

RS sedan with no manual, pass. RS avant with an automatic, I'm in.

Having said that, I like the RS3 but just too bad there's no manual though, and a little disappointing that it's a little heavier up front compared to MLB platform.

Came up on an RS3 today on the freeway. Looks kind of like an S model. Oh, S3. Wait, RS3. Underwhelmed...

I like the style. Audi has never been over aggressive with their body designs. Interior tech could use some upgrades but beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to an RS in the states. If you want sharp edges and an aggressive look go get the f82 M4....
