Exclamation Bad things come in 3s.. hit and runs. (Advice)

So 2018 is not my year. I picked up my S4 last June (2017) and love it. Amazing daily driver and what I've always wanted in a car.

Recently I've been part of a barrage of bad luck.

    - 10 days ago: my car was involved in a overnight hit and run while parked. My headlight, front bumper and front fender was pushed it. Likely someone backed into my car trying to park like a idiot. I filed a claim through insurance, no police report filed. I went to a recc' body shop by some members on this forum and they quoted it's going to be a very expensive given the headlight, front fender replacement, paint etc and whatever is going on behind it. (upwards of 8-9k~)

    - 5 days later: my car was rear ended while I was stopped at a red light by someone. Police report filed. I am not at fault and I am claiming through the driver who rear ended me. Basically I was stopped, car behind me was stopping and the car behind him bumped him into me. Damage is just a small scuff in the back but the paint is cracked on my bumper and diffuser.

*(I bought a blackvue dashcam after this)

    - 5 days later (Today): I walk outside and see that my car was side swiped overnight damaging the 2 doors and back qtr panel and wheel. I filed a police report again for a hit and run because to be honest at this point I can't make this sh*t up. I'm checking with stores that I was parked in front of if they have footage but I'm preparing for the worst case scenario. I haven't contacted my insurance yet (found out 6am this morning).

Just looking for some guidance/advice here. I bought the car used (currently 45kmiles) at around ~$36K. I have to imagine my insurance is going to either drop me or something along those lines of hiking my premiums through the roof. Besides that I imagine on claim #1 and Claim #3 its gonna be close to half if not more then 2/3rd the cost in body work to get it all repaired for what I paid for the car used.

Good news: I wasn't even at fault for any of these, I'm healthy and my dashcam comes in 2 days lol.
Bad news: My car is jacked, my insurance will likely highly consider dropping me or killing me on premiums.

Sorry to hear about all the damage. Doing a call back to the vanity plate thread, I think CURS4D might be appropriate

As long as your car is insured in the area in which you actually live, you should be ok from an insurance standpoint. Bad luck and shitty driving due to your own volition are two wildly different things, IMO. At this rate, you're getting up there in repair costs though, so I'm curious if the collective damage can warrant a total loss?

Yeah I guess I won't know until I sort all out with insurance. Yeah my car isn't insured in like PA or out of state and I live in NY or something like that so I don't forsee a problem there. Insured in NY and live in NY.

I know this isn't helpful, but this is one of the reasons I don't live in the city. If I didn't want to own a car, I'd be very tempted to get a place downtown and take the train everywhere. But when I do go into the city and look around at the cars parked along the sidewalks I see rampant carelessness and lack of respect for other people's property manifested in the damage on these cars. I hope you are able to come out relatively unscathed on this.

I certainly agree with you - funny thing is, I live in a part of the city on a VERY quiet street where this is very uncommon (apparently not). I know ran the risk so that's on me presumably but not like this... that being said depending on how I get out of this I'll likely just square up and put it in a garage going fwd.

Structurally/mechanically it's fine (to my knowledge). All this is basically cosmetic. I feel I would take a MASSIVE hit on value given its history no?

Unfortunately, you’re probably right. Even if each accident is minor/consmetic and fully repairable, a prospective buyer would see 3 unique accidents on a car history report which could be a deterrent for buying, even if you were able to provide evidence that they were all minor issues.

You're insurance won't drop you. Two accidents aren't your fault. The hit and run should be covered under no-fault if your state has that, again not your fault so there shouldn't be a premium increase either.

You should get an attorney an sue for loss of value. As each accident devalues the car, that should be part of the settlement.

BTW, isn't your neck hurting from being rear-ended? ;)

Two hit and runs I have no idea who did it - first one def got away with it. 2nd one is TBD if I can find some footage from the stores. I don't think no-fault will apply for the hit and runs unfort.

Typically yes - with no issue to be honest. I live on a street where there is very light foot and vehicle traffic to begin with. Which I guess is a good thing in that regards but terrible b.c if things like this happen.. less likely that someone sees it.

Can’t have anything nice in NYC. My car got totaled from being sideswiped hard in Queens a couple months ago. With that said, I went out and bought another S4. You need to pay to play, and I think it’s worth the risk you take.

I’d recommend you take the car straight to Flower Hill body shop in Roslyn NY. The are a certified shop and I can connect you with a car enthusiast who works there. He can help make the process easier.

Cars are never going to be perfect, especially if you live in NYC. None of that damage will effect the drivability of your car. This is a major inconvenience but you can suck it up and deal with it #firstworldproblems

That's actually the shop I'm using - I spoke to Jim over at the shop for my front end. He's been great thus far. Whose your contact over there? Didn't pull the trigger yet as I was waiting to sort my rear end problem with the other persons insurance!

I worked with Mike there, all the guys i met there are great.

I’d just have your insurance fix the whole whole car; they can go after the other insurance for you. It’s easier because you deal with one company instead of 2. Your Insurance would also prefer that, and it won’t affect your rate negatively. Good luck with repair! #GLWR

Ex-girlfriend you end things with recently? That totally sucks but on the bright side you'll have a completely new paint job. I'd consider investing in PPF (paint protection film) now that you have the opportunity to.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

I parked on the street visiting someone for the first time once, walked out to a side-swiped car. Badly damaged front door, front fender, hood, bumper. No note of course.

Some people are shady idiot cowards, either drunk or distracted by their phones, then veer into parked cars, then scram.

This was like 20 years ago, still annoying to think about it, but after it was fixed, there were no signs of it, I forgot all about it, and enjoyed the car.

Sorry to hear about this. At least it is all cosmetic and if it were me I wouldn't let that detract from the enjoyment of the car and the driving experience. Getting rid of the car to get a new one just because of it to me doesn't make sense. What happens when that new car gets damaged? It will happen, although hopefully not as bad as your current situations.

I have learned to not care so much about dings and things (not that your situation is a door ding). The stress and anger I see so many people have when something happens just isn't something I want to deal with. Not to mention, I'd rather put money into performance upgrades than making my car look like a show car. I admit though, I love seeing pics of cars that people have dialed up to 11 on the shine.

This isn't a bad idea, the only downside is that you will have three deductibles to pay upfront, instead of two, at least until your company gets one back from the company that hit you.

Auto deductibles are per occurrence and not aggregate. It would be convenient to have only one insurance company involved in all three, but it sounds like the OP has already been in contact with 3rd party's company. So they'll cut a check for that repair, and then his own company will take care of the other two, minus the two deductibles (unless he lies and claims it all happened at once, which he doesn't appear to be doing).

As wacky as it sounds, theoretically, he could have enough damage between all the claims, that the car could have been a total loss if they all occurred at once. But since they are separate, they would not total the car, since each incident stands on it's own and doesn't depend on another. Insurance can be crazy like that, and that's why it drives all of us crazy, .

Thanks guys - appreciate all the feedback. Keep you posted. Basically I dropped it off at Flowerhill today and started all the claims processes etc and got myself a nice little loaner hyundai for a few weeks lol.

Also trying to grab some film/video from the storefronts to see if I can find that POS but looking pretty unlikely at this point.

I’m a pass by the shop tomorrow and talk to Mike. Let us know if you pay deductible x3

I lol'd at this... sorry OP.

As far as the side swipe though I was in the exact same boat with my old car. Ended up just having to file it on my own insurance cause nobody could provide footage of what happened. Best of luck to you mate!

Looks like some decent evidence left behind at the sideswipe -- hope you picked up the remnants from the other car, they can help strengthen your case.

As of right now - I'll likely be paying the deductible for 2x through insurance (two hit and runs - haven't had any luck getting video footage unfort). Have the inspector/adjuster from the rear end coordinating and looking at that - I should be square on that one hopefully.
