Last week, I took my 2010 S5 Prestige 4.2 Auto to the dealership for a check engine light. For background, I am the second owner and there are 43xxx miles on the car.
They told me the engine light may be due to the catalysts failing. I had the recall work done for the replacement catalysts (free, f yeah).
However, I am now told the check engine light was due to a failing intake butterfly valve controller. It's supposedly not the butterfly valve itself that's bad, but the controller. They are not sure at this point whether its causing the valve to stay open or closed. I did notice the engine behaving a bit strange after the light came on. There was a period about 3 months back where the light came on for a few days and then turned off, but I have no idea whether it was related.
Anyway, they are quoting me $674 for the repair. See the attached photos.
Is this reasonable? Should I seek a solution or second opinion elsewhere? It seems pricey, especially with the 45k service coming soon.
Any insight is appreciated.
**EDIT** - this is my first Audi and I'm far from an experienced mechanic. My apologies if the above description is inaccurate.
