    255/35/19 rubbing concerns

I decided to put 255/35/19s on my front wheels. Here are some photos of the clearance.

The first photos are the wheels fully turned and there’s about a .5 inched of space on either side. At no turn there’s a couple inches. So far I see no rubbing but I’m wondering if I’m cutting it too close and if I hit a hard bump I may be in for some damage. Anybody else running these successfully? Also I have not lowered nor do I plan to.

    Here’s what they look like:

the consensus is avoid it, if you have people in the car you may rub and speed bumps may rub.

This opinion may not be popular, all rubbing issues aside:

Having worked in the tire industry for about a decade at some point in my life, I really don't like messing with overall tire diameter. It is too critical of a standard that too many systems are based off of. Everything that reads and calculates off of the wheel speed sensor is affected - ABS, stability control, traction control, speedometer, odometer, and a bunch more. Overall gearing is mechanically affected as well. The AWD system is mainly concerned about difference between front and rear heights, but the OEM setup does have about 1/2" stagger height wise (shorter in front). There is always some wiggle room because tires don't always wear evenly, but by changing it you are intentionally getting yourself closer to the threshold where you will start to have issues. I'm just not a fan.

But they run squared and staggered versions on this car so they've already planned for that setup in the engineering. That being said, I think I'm going to go back to a 255/30 front and keep the rears at 255/35 so i still have the same heights.

Fair point. 255/35 is a fair bit taller though.

I assume you mean 235/35 rear... Switch to 30 series front is what I would do.

The stock tires are 235/55 but I’m going to leave them at 255/35 and then swap the fronts back to 255/30. It’s not exactly stock but it’s close enough. Otherwise I’d have to find a way to sell these tires for a pretty big loss and this way I can hold onto the extra set of 255/35 and put them on the rears when the current tires start going out.

I've been running them since November using my S4 Peelers, there has been no issue in the front and only a small issue in the passenger rear where the plastic lip on the rear of the fender mounts. I used a razor to nip off the little nub sticking into the wheel well and have had no issues....later today I'll be posting pics and starting a thread of my 275/30's I just test fit over the weekend ...

Thanks. I've been watching and so far no rubbing. Planning to keep my squared 255/35/19s unless something changes.

The 35 tall should be a better ride correct?

When are guys are running the 255/35/19 up front, are you lowered? And how much camber are you getting? Currently I’m stock height with GC camber plates, but I’m still maxed on my front camber at -2.1.

I’m trying to figure out how to get more camber. One thought is lower the car a bit, but since I daily drive it I don’t want it too low. So if I lower the springs but put on taller wheels up front I can get more camber without the front bumper being too low.

I run this size tire all around with a 12mm spacer as well, stock height. No rubbing.

if it's any help, I'm running 265/30 on a 19" wheel. lowered on springs and the only rubbing I get is from my wheel fender arches touching the tires over big bumps at speed, but nothing a simple fender roll/pull can't solve. if the car wasn't lowered, i'd have no rubbing issues
