Has anyone in the Puget Sound area (Everett to Tacoma, Seattle to snoqualmie) had carbon cleaning done and not get charged an arm and a leg? Any help would be appreciated

DIY is really the only way around that. Even if you found an independent shop to do it by blasting with walnut shells you're still looking at 10-14 hours ($1,000-$1,400).

God DIYing a CC would be a nightmare. I've shopped around for it, and the price was all over the place, but shouldn't pay more than $850 for it.
I have a good relation with a local shop and did CC/Spark Plugs/oil change (rs4) for $1000 out the door.
Carbon Buildup affects power but should be okay for daily driving. Just as a reference, I gained 50whp on the same dyno after a CC.

DIY'ing a carbon cleaning is not that bad. I did it to my S5 like two years ago. It is very time consuming but very doable.

If you have the head off its much better. Idk what forum im in but this was on a 2.0t.. Lots of brake cleaner and little flat head screwdrivers.

Definitely does not require a head pull but I could see how it would be easier.

I did my 4.2 V8 in the car and the only issue was being bent over for hours. Definitely used a lot of brake cleaner and dental tools for scraping.

Just being off the car and on a bench with proper lighting really helps. Plus you don’t have any about shit falling into the cylinders

unfortunately i don't have a parking space let alone a garage to do a DIY. I have a 2.0T that has about 45k miles.. the fuel economy is pretty bad but idk if I should chalk that up to having a roof cargo box (although it's one of the more sleek and slim boxes)

Whats "pretty bad" fuel economy? There can be many ways to fix bad fuel economy without doing a full blown carbon clean. Roof box isn't going to make a measurable difference

The DIS says about 18.5mpg and I do about 50/50 city/hwy split. According to Google the car is rated 20 city 27 hwy.. car is stock minus a drop in air filter and I'm driving aggressively in any way. I even pumped the tires 3mpg over recommended to try and squeeze out a bit more efficiency. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I think the best way to measure mpg is gonna be the old fashioned way - fill up and set your trip odometer, check on the next fill up. Things to check:

    Fuel filter
    Air filter
    Plugs
    PCV
Maybe run a fuel system cleaner like BG44k

What fuel are you filling up with?

Hmm tbh idk how to check the fuel filter or PCV but I had dealer do new plugs at 35k and the air filter is less than a year old but it may be a good idea to check it out. I’m using 92 oct from Costco

Fuel filter you can't really check - but they're $50 and super easy to change. Search the forums for PCV stuff

I filled up this morning and calculated my MPG.... 16mpg, which tbh for me is pretty average. And I've changed everything over the years. Also did a carbon clean.

Just ordered a couple bottles on Amazon (1 for my Audi and 1 for our Tahoe). This stuff work? Lots of positive reviews on Amazon.

I didn't notice a huge difference when I used it last. But you might!

Considering my own horrible gas mileage, i should probably try it again. Or just continue to live with it :(

I live in Tacoma and did mine. It was actually pretty easy.
