    Clear coat

Today I noticed that on my front bumper and only on the bumper, it seems that the clear coat is pealing in multiple areas. It's a 2016 and well cared for so I found it odd. Does Audi release with a film of sort? Is that an option that Audi ofers? I find it hard to believe it's actually clear coat and not some sort of clear bra.

I'll have to take them tomorrow, it's dark out now and it'd be hard to see. I bought it pre-owned about 6 months ago with 9k miles.

I’ve never seen clearcoat peel off a new car - my guess is maybe a clear bra but need to see pics

Chances are the bumpers were resprayed and it was a substandard repair. Not a big deal but I'd make the dealer pay for a competent body shop respray it.

Agreed with the above - more than likely a poor refinishing/repair job.

Since OP didn't mention a respray, sounds like he didn't get the car inspected. Than can be a HUGE mistake, but hopefully it was something minor this time, but keep in mind even a light hit can damage aluminum components that many shady shops (like the one with the peeling bumper job) don't fix. I'd get the car inspected, just in case. Lesson learned. Good luck.

Most dealerships nowadays will get bumpers resprayed if they're scuffed/scratched. Most of the time it is done right in the parking lot by mobile guys. If done in the right temperature/prep, it can be fine. Sometimes they do not do it right and it ends up like the OPs circumstance.

+1. I'd be shocked if it were factory paint that's peeling.

It's a little hard to see but it's on the creases.

I won't pretend to k ow the exact history of the car, but it did have a clean Carfax and purchased with only 9k from a dealer. Just seems odd to me, I've never seen anything like this on such a new car.

If you relied on Carfax instead of a pre-purchase inspection (PPI), it was a HUGE mistake. Hopefully your car didn't have any crash damage, but Carfax (related services) are just ONE tool, but not the most important by far. Many accidents are never reported to Carfax due to several factors, like no police report, single-car accidents, etc. Most bodyshops and insurance companies don't report anything either. Finally, many selling dealers know how to remove undesirable hits anyway, so mostly just to know how many previous owners and if title is good; that's it. But NEVER rely on it for condition of the car. Oh, forgot to comment that is the crappiest respray job I've ever seen in my life; how come you didn't see it before buying the car? Oh well. Good luck.

So funny enough the same thing happened to my girlfriend this past week, she bought a preowned m4 and it had a poorly installed clear bra. When my detailers went to remove it a bunch of paint came up with it. Clearly a bad respray at the dealership. Pic below.

Had to get the entire front bumper resprayed and she’s still fighting with the dealership over it ( they are pointing the finger at the detailers ) . Though now that’s it’s wrapped in xpel stealth to match my S7 it’s looking great (although with the added cost of a bumper respray)

I think the OP came for advice, not to be berated.

Thanks. I've been in talks with the dealer I bought it from and it looks like my SA is taking care of me again. They've been great so far. Hoping for the final word any day now.
