Original Audi Carbon Mirror Covers compared to Aluminum and Black Optics

We never got the option to order carbon mirror covers, although it was an option in the UK for £1,250 GBP! I picked up a set in Germany last fall, but a recent check indicates that the part number is now available stateside for $780 MSRP or ~$638 online, which is much cheaper than what I paid.

The part number is 8S0 072 530 A 3Q0 for a set of left and right covers. I hope this helps those that want the carbon mirror option.

If anyone wants a set of brushed aluminum ones, check the classifieds (I got this set to learn how to install my carbon covers) https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...g-heated-glass

For install instructions, read my handy write up here: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...1#post12854106

    UK Option £1,250 GBP

The OEM carbon covers are actually full carbon, not laid over a plastic shell, so there is actually a bit of weight savings. I've had mine since last September and no hint of yellowing in the clear coat. The carbon weave is also a perfect match with the interior carbon in my TTRS.

Full Carbon Covers at 81 grams:

Black Optics Gloss Black at 99 grams:

Alu Optic Brushed Aluminum at 136 grams:

Everytime you post it cost someone money.

I am resisting the urge because I don't plan on keeping the car long-term, R8 itch too strong

The latest gen R8 uses the same mirror as the MK3 TT

Alright so I ordered the caps - thanks for the part number so super helpful! The insert in the box of warnings even had a TT pictured. Not sure if that’s just a standard line drawing.

Anyhow, looking at your instructions to replace the caps - any issues to watch out for?

The two questions that spring to mind is:
Did you have to remove the entire mirror assembly off the door just to swap?
Did you have any warning lights or anything afterwards?

Removal off the door not required.
If you have folding mirrors and rotated them during install, return them to original position before starting car.

I used painters tape when removing glass to avoid scuffing plastic housing. Protective eyewear and gloves always a good idea when working with glass.

Thanks so much for the help! That all makes sense. Really appreciate the install instructions too.

Is it the same part number if my car has Lane Assist?
