    RSQ5 a reality?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

For those doubters out there, it is happening. The big question is; will it come to the U.S.?

I honestly don't see why it wouldn't. America is the largest market for the Q5's. That's why they moved its manufacture closer to our shores.

This is the one Q5 model I might actually trade up to. Your thoughts?

There is a huge possibility that the RS Q5 will end up being sold in North America (not just the US). When Audi Sport was launched in the US, they promised to bring in 8 RS models. Currently, we have the R8, TTRS, RS3, RS5, RS5 SB. The R8 will be discontinued after two to three years. So there's 4 model slots left. My guess is that the following cars are coming up:
    RSQ5
    RS7 (new generation body style)
    RSQ3 (new generation body style)
    RSQ7

Forget about the RS4 and RS6 reaching out shores. They're Avants and Audi won't make these available here.

I think they moved the manufacturing closer to our shores to save money and cut corners to help bail out VAG from the TDI disaster.

Regardless, an RSQ5 would be a very desirable addition to Audi's North American stable, if quality control is there and they don't cut corners and cheap out on it.

I assume no supercharger, though, probably twin turbos and three liter displacement?

It's supposed to be the sames 2.9TT as the RS5.

The biggest problem I have with Audi is they tend to bring RS cars over so late in the lifecycle of a model...a lot of people have already pulled the trigger on a regular or S version at that point. They're getting better....but M and AMG tend to have their versions align more closely to a model's release. I know there are a ton of reasons why Audi probably operates the way they do, but their argument always seems to be that no one would buy the RS car, even though more people would probably buy them if they released them close to the release of the new model.

Don't know much about that engine but sounds odd to go down in size (even just .1 liters) for the sportiest version.

Yeah, but that's the deal. The 2.9TT engine will be used in in all mid-size RS's, coming to the U.S. or not: RS4, RS5, RSQ5, and it is also one of the Panamera options as well. They aren't too shaby at 450 HP, stock, but not sure what, if any, tuning options will be available for it.

From what I can recall, the S models use a 3.0t with Twin scroll, while the RS models use a 2.9 with actual twin turbos.

Also I heard the RS6 is coming, and this was apparently confirmed from a couple of dealers.

I'd be shocked to see an RSQ5 for the US market, but as always, I've been wrong before. Not sure they'd move that engine across the pond to be assembled on this stretch of land...let alone provide the training for the Sport-custom 25-mile break-in drive....all only to cannibalize upper-end Macan sales.

I thought I read that the RSQ8 would likely be coming stateside as well. Will be interesting to see what comes this way, this is the reason I did a 3 year lease on my SQ5, in 2.5 more years I'm hoping something a little more attractive will be here. Crossing fingers for the RS6 or RS4 as a wagon, sadly I have a feeling if they do come to our side of the pond they will be sedans and not wagons.

So RSQ5 - 450HP version for starting price in the 90k's???(guessing)... Or 54K (cheapest) - SQ5 with Chip at 433HP? What else could they throw in it to justify the price - Honestly... Jealous and a little biased because I just picked up the 2018 SQ5 Prestige, and that always seems to be THE thing. Ie. I get a R/T and the SRT comes out, I get an SRT, the SRT hellcat comes out. I hope it comes to US for those of you that want it, but I cant justify the cost difference for 96HP.

I wouldn't be interested in an RSQ5, an RSQ8 that is a different story. Like you, I bought a 2018 SQ5 prestige this year. An RS version of that isn't enough to make me jump.

I'd be curious to see what the potential is of a moderately modified RSQ5. The RS3s have shown some pretty amazing performance numbers so far with just minor modifications so that is possible.

Cost of ownership is a factor in addition to MSRP. My Q5 3.0T costs way less than an SQ5 to insure and I'm sure the RS would be much higher still. If a Q5 with dual pulley, KW coilovers, BBK, and upgraded wheels/tires outperforms, outhandles and outbrakes the RS then I don't really see the point. It's even pretty cheap to add a flat bottom steering wheel and some further cosmetics if really desired. The badge and body kit can only be worth so much right?

Lastly if I was shopping in the 100k range I would cross shop Cayenne Turbo, Macan Turbo, and Model X.

Hence my comment about downgrading .01 liters; I'm not saying 450 hp isn't great but as all of you have just indicated it doesn't move the needle much at all from the SQ5; seems like Audi would just be competing with itself if it brings over this model.

The SQ5 and the RS5, along with the S4 and S5, share the same ECU. It is virtually locked. No reason to expect an RSQ5 will have a different ecu. The 5 cylinder ECU (TTRS/RS3) is completely different than the unit used for the B9 V6 cars. I wouldn't walk into future S/RS models including the current S4/S5/RS5 and think there will be a plethora of tuning options available.

That is disappointing. Is this just a matter of tuners figuring it out - was this the case on past Audi ECUs that now have tunes available? Or is this a new thing?

It is a new thing, usually the ECUs are wide open within a few months. Take APR for example, they posted their thread about it 7/25/17 after having their S4 for a few months. Even now, they still aren't into this newer Bosch MG1 ecu. This is a worldwide issue. Will it be like this forever? Probably not, but this is something is something to consider for now.

Real, or render? Randomly saw this in Instagram, and it didn't seem to make a blip. Wheel/tire fitment & flushness seem to legit for this pic to be real.

I love audi but they started to loose me when they stopped bringing in Avants to the US. One of the big reasons i picked up the SQ5's was that i could drop it and it looked like a wagon. I will continue to look into other brands until they do, or will just fly over to Germany and pay whatever needs to happen to get an RS6 avant in the states. if they dont the Panamera wagon is coming to the US, but i will have to wait. just took delivery of the the alfa so im set with power for now.
