Need help deciding on Springs for my B8.5 S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm sure this has been discussed on here but I can't really find a proper thread pertaining to what my needs are so hopefully I can get some sound advice from someone who has the 2 setups I'm thing of.

I own a B8.5 S4 I use it as a daily driver mostly for work as I am in Sales, I have a set of 20" wheels going on once the weather gets warm and I want to install springs but I'm unsure which ones to get. I'd like to retain the stock ride quality as much as possible as the 30 series tire will already be a stiffer ride so I don't want to add to that with too stiff springs.

    My choices are
Eibach Pro kit - Lowers the car 1" from stock

H&R Sport Springs - Lowers the car 1.5, 1.8" from stock.

I've had Eiback Pro's on the last 3 cars I've owned and the ride quality hardly changed from stock ( they were on a Infiniti G35 and G37)

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

H&R OE springs sucked with the stock dampers. Bouncy and just felt off. Not sure with other brands, but the B12 kit I've heard is good (spring/shock combo) or go coil overs. I've had just the springs on numerous other cars, but always end up going coils since the stock dampers aren't set for the aftermarket springs.

I second that. Springs and shocks/struts should match and that kit is a great thing.

Over the years, I've learned that when it comes to suspension you either go all in and get quality coil-overs or leave it stock. For some, the lowered look is more important than ride quality, so lowering springs do the trick, but if you're already on 20s, you run the risk of having making things worse before making them better. Ideally, go to a meet and get a ride in a car that has the set-up that you're considering buying.

Thanks for the Advice guys. I'm surprised that the stock shocks don't do well with a mild drop I had Eibach Pros (Springs only) in my last 3 cars and ride quality almost stayed the same as stock, it was naturally a bit stiffer but over all the ride quality was very good. I figured Eibach Pro's or H&R OE Sport would have worked just fine.

I have KW HAS because I wanted to keep my ADS functions. I'm on stock shocks and 255/30/20 and the ride is pretty good, especially for how low I am. That's the other bonus is they are adjustable. Only problem is you can get the B12 kit or similar for the same cost including shocks but at a fixed ride height.

I've been thinking about moving to a matched spring+damper set instead of my current H&R Street Performance coilovers, and I'm thinking that H&R Sport springs have the best ride height for my preference. Does anyone know which damper(s) would match well with those springs?

Furthermore, does anyone know which springs H&R uses on the Street Performance coilover kit? They are red in color and I believe the H&R Sport springs and/or Super Sport springs are also red.

I found the stock ride and handling to be perfect for DD. I wouldn't mess with it unless I plan to track the car or it's broken. Then it's coilover time.

Buying Eibach springs with Bilstein shocks will save you a lot over a good set of coils.

Once you change any suspension part on this car, at least the rear sway bar/endlinks needs to get changed. My B8.5 on coils or springs (I’ve had both setups) gave you the silly boat feeling before the sway bar was put on. You know it’s bad when your non-car loving lady tells you the ride feels like a boat.
