Yes, it is and after a trip through the ultrasonic cleaner it moves and functions just fine. It's only a ball and spring. I'm taking my chances. I could see if it were badly gummed up.

My dealer (1 of 10 in the Greater Toronto Area) has replaced the turbos on 4 cars in the last couple of months.

Damn, By a LONG time too.

Looks like my S6 found a new home this weekend. Dealer has it listed as sold after only 1 day on the lot.

The new Q7 is nice but I miss that V8.

My S6 sold fast after the trade, too. Just waiting to see it show up on here. He finds my posts...and then come the questions. None of which I can answer, of course. lol

    Add mine to the list.

MY13, 83k miles on the clock. Stock apart from a possible ECU tune (can't verify as was bought used).

Both impellers have large amounts of play, especially right turbo which seems to move nearly a centimetre.

Strange thing is, the car was absolutely fine until it started developing a misfire on cylinder 3 which is what the car went in for. Garage called today to tell me both turbos had blown and it might resolve the issue of the misfires I got previously, but no way of knowing.

Looking at 5500 ($7200) for stock turbos, ancillaries and labour. Fucks sake

just getting caught up on this. I just got my '14 A8L with this glorious V8 twin turbo. I am fortunate to have CPO warranty for the next 2 years, up to 100k miles.

I'd rather not have my turbos damaged. Is this problem mostly related to insufficient oil flow for cooling an dlubrication of the turbo bearings? has the primary culprit been a thicker sludge restricting the clean oil supply to the turbo bearings, resulting in their failure?

since I drive around 20k miles per year, and will be changing my own oil, could a more strict regimine and focus on oil quality help prevent a failure?
I do intent on tuning with APR stage 1 in the future.

I'm sure there are a zillion info pages on oil/coolant/turbo failures (in general) but this is a nice short overview i think regarding: insufficient oil supply, dirty oil and carbon build up. Combine that with the thin mesh oil screen in the earlier versions (up to 2016?)....

The 4.0T is a totally different engine, than the 2.0T

Thanks it just was not clear that it was specific to one type of engine. I was wondering if it was across all turbo variants. Glad to hear the 2.0T is not in play. Sure hope Audi makes it right for all you 4.0s..
