    Hi all,

Apologies if I happen to not be in the correct model forum, but I did want to post and gain some knowledge on my current situation.

I have a 2014 Audi Q5, 2.0 TFSI gas engine - build date of Jan 9, 2014. I just passed 150,000 trouble free km with it. (I bought at 84k), and I'm in Canada.

When I bought the vehicle, I was aware of the timing chain/tensioner issues, and there was a site (which I cannot seem to find now) that allowed me to punch in the VIN to see if it was eligible for warranty or for taking part in the class action lawsuit here in Canada. My VIN said I was unaffected.

However, I also just got the dreaded P053F and P0088 codes, which led me here, among other sites.

I used VCDS ver 16.8 and found that my camshaft adaptation intake bank 1, phase position reading after a 30km drive was -10.7!!!

I plan on parking the vehicle tonight, and going under to view the tensioner through the lower timing cover inspection port to see if that value is really accurate, as I have read through this thread and have a hard time believing that is could be the actual value without seeing any potential issues.

Other than the codes, which do come back after clearing, I have had no noticeable loss of power, no chain noise, nothing at all that would indicate a problem - the only thing that clued me into this was googling these codes and falling into the rabbit hole of some 2014 models having updated tensioners, but original style chains. Yikes!

Anyway, I'll post that pic of the tensioner view window tomorrow to confirm my suspicions, but has any thoughts on if Audi Canada will potentially cover this? I do have a letter into customer care.

Thanks for all the previous information, and for your help.

90-120k miles is within the normal range for timing replacement, whereas 10.7 is quite high it’s not unheard of with the new(er) tensioner to get to this point without a catastrophic failure.

As for your fuel codes low/high, they might go away after the timing service as the hpfp runs off the cam lobes and it might be a bit out of sync given your phase number.

Audi doesn't cover 2014 . you are well.past any claim date on the law suit also. by years.
just plan on fixing it and move on. 2014 does not have updated chain, it will need replacing along with guides and pins. I was 8.8 at 220k km. your does seem early

Just changed the oil and did a cam phase check on my brothers new to him 2014.

56,209 miles, -3.14°. I'll post a pic of the tensioner next week.

Other than some poorly repaired cosmetic front end damage, the car is like new.
There are many like it but this one is mine... (Coming Soon) ;)

    Alright, try again…

After I had changed my oil and took drive, I took a look at the measurements for mine since I’m at 179K miles already. I got a reading of -3.03

Tensioner was replaced back in 2019 at approx 122,208 miles

I think having almost 57K miles so far is pretty good, not great—just good. I think I’ll retire the Avant from daily driver duties within a couple years

Guess that one is ok. It'll be interesting to see where it's at in a year from now. 5K OCI since ~60K miles (no idea pre-60K)
Been eight months since the last I checked but recently did an oil change on the 2016 allroad (with DI40 + Mann Filter) and after warmed up (again on E85) got an interesting result. The phase position is now at -3.08°. It's at 103K miles.
