I remember when I had my 2000 A4 and read Consumer Reports review of the car. It was not a good review but I owned it for 14 years and put 230K miles on it. I enjoyed the car enough to buy another A4. People do put a base on CR.

Interestingly, the '08 to '11 A4 are on their "do not buy" used cars list, and the '13 A4 is on the "recommended" list. Mine is a '12... go figure.

As far as best brands go. The concept of this list doesn't make any sense to me.

Genesis sells 2-3 different models? Other brands like Audi, Lexus selling a much more varied portfolio. Also while the difference between cars you pull from the dealer lot, and those received from the manufacturer has good intent, it still doesn't get around the fact that the car you get at the dealer could be very good, or very bad within the same make and model. Just because consumer auto got good batch from the dealers, doesn't mean their aren't a bunch of bad and/or defective cars sitting on other lots.

Technically speaking, if you go by highest overall customer satisfaction, Tesla ranks #1, but its such a niche market at the moment it makes no sense to even include it on the list. As expected, consumer reports reviews are cherry picked based on the amount of kickback they get from the AAA.

Hmm... list looks a bit off with Audi, BMW, Lexus and Porsche beating out Honda and Toyota. Oh well this list should help our resale value!

I never put much stock in Consumer Reports ratings. They just look at perceived value with things like cost per mile and so on. They totally overlook one of the most important factors - joy of ownership. If the car makes you happy and it's fun to drive then the rest of it is completely irrelevant. LOL, I'd like to show this list to a buddy of mine who's a Master Mechanic at a Lexus dealer and has been working on Toyota products most of his adult life. I'm sure he'd have a few things to say about it. He absolutely hates German cars.

Lexus,Porsche,Buick usually is always in the top 5.Audi above 2014 seems to be pretty reliable.I know a few Audi mechanics and they rarely seen the crap that Audi's between 2009-2013 experience. One thing though the electronic, electric aspects of the B8 models are surprisingly reliable.

I've always wondered about this, as I have a '12 as well and I don't seem to experience all the issues everybody else complains of. The research I did before buying also suggested that I would be fine going with a '12. I don't know enough about the revisions made through the various years to know if much changed between '11 and '12.

Does anybody know what/if changes were made to the '12 models?

I wonder if some changes were made during the 2012 model year?

On mine, I opened up the engine and it definitely had the failure-prone tensioner... it was a ticking time bomb. Due to financial constraints and the fact the other components looked okay I just replaced the tensioner which I know isn't ideal but I still sleep a little better.
