Yet another RS style grill installed. Keep the foam?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So it seems that some models have a dark grey foam over the bumper bar, I have a facelift MY 16 and it came with it, which made the install a nightmare due to even less room to get to the screws just below the bend.

I can't help it but my eye keeps catching it, but that's probably because I know it's there. Should I remove it and paint the bar black or just leave it as is? Thoughts?

Paint it or Plastic dip if removing foam. The fact that only you would notice it will drive you insane.

X2 I lean more towards removing the foam and just paint the crash bar.

I think I'll eventually do that.

What exactly is the function of the foam? I can't imagine it actually protects anything.

The foam reinforces the factory grill. You don't need it.

Recommend using a black spray-on truck bed-liner. Much more resistant to peeling and chips as opposed to just painting the crash bar. I've got a few silver areas on my crash bar just a few months after spray painting it. Not very noticeable, but enough to make you crazy when you know its there.

Great point about the bedliner, I wish I read your post before I painted. No worries though, after taking it off and on a few times, it's really not that bad.

The fit is perfect, I can't come up with a single fitment flaw.

Great idea. I never considered it due to the texture. That isn't noticable through the grille I take it?

Just completed mine today!! Very happy with the results. Texture of bed liner material is not noticeable through grille. Unlike other threads that said cutting and grinding were necessary because tabs/screw holes didn’t line up, the grille I got from eBay was a direct ‘plug and play’ - no alterations necessary. Another suggestion that really helped was using nylon zip ties to aid in prying back the tabs of original grille. I don’t think I could’ve gotten it off without doing that.

Looks awesome - can you PM or post the ebay link? I was nervous about getting one from ebay due to fitment, but glad to hear yours fit perfectly. I assume you removed the bumper to install? That seems like the consensus...

Here is the badgeless RS style grill I just installed. Painted the crash bar semi gloss black which looks perfect. Flat turns chalky looking in my opinion. This one came from eBay as well and less then $200 I am very surprised on how nice the quality is. “So yes remove the foam and paint the crash bar!”

one of my biggest regrets is leaving the foam in there when i swapped to the RS Grill ...... i painted the crash bar black... but like a fool put the foam back in and that is all i see lol... i did this back in december and it was freezing now its just too hot to start taking things apart... just waiting for some breathable weather to remove again lol... btw the grill looks great
