Key not recognized which left me stranded

I left me home yesterday for a medical appointment 50 km away. All went well however when I arrived the trunk wouldn't open from the door release. The trunk did open when I used the exterior trunk release. The car would not lock with the remote. An hour later I entered the car. It wouldn't start displaying key not recognized check manual. Eventually my son arrived with my spare key and she started. I went to my local dealer and discovered my remote battery went dead. All is good now. What would have happened if this were a Sunday and I wasn't able to obtain a battery? There was no warning to advise I should replace my battery. I wasn't impressed. My 07 GTI which I just sold with 283,500 km on it still had the original batteries in both remotes. Anyway, that is my story. Has anybody else had this occur?

I thought you just needed to hold the key against the area on the steering column to emergency start the vehicle? At least that's what the manual says.

Sorry that happened but you should have checked the manual!

Look on your steering column under the wiper stalk.... See the key emblem? Hold your fob against it and press the start button.

I'll remove the battery and give that a try. I was without my reading glasses when this occurred so it was like asking a blind person to help. We never learn do we.

Sometimes I'll be driving around town and randomly my car will say "Key not found", while it's in my pocket. Happened yesterday going to the gym for a matter of fact. I've replaced the battery in it twice already and it still does it. Key range is also garbage too (wont work past 5 feet).

my last audi was like that (2004 a4), but not this one (2016 s3). i can do it from about 50 yards away. i would let dealer know.

also, it helped with my a4, if you hold the key fob to your chin while you press unlock or lock, it should work past 5 ft.

Did you ever get your haldex issue resolved??

Simple answer, NO. I've sold the car, however, I have it until my RS5 arrives. I was told to return when there is snow on the ground and haven't had time to of that due to ongoing medical appointments.
