Replacing fog light bulbs - opinion..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Would love to match the headlights to the fogs.. any idea of the bulb that would most likely achieve this?

Ive seen bulbs that are "super white for like $15 as well as $250 from ecs..

This is what I'm shooting for:

It think it depends on if you have Xenon HIDs, but I'm also curious about this. I don't know if the HIDs are color matched to the standard bulbs. I purchased some fog bulbs that I thought were going to match my HID, but they are way yellow in comparison, I think I should have done more research before I impulse bought them on sale.

try some LED bulbs for the fogs. not the cheap ones but get something like this, this is the one i got - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J6YGGZ8/

6000K LED, they match the HID/DRLs very well and it has that similar look. also uses very low power, doesnt get the fog housing hot, etc. and is cheaper and simpler than retrofitting HIDs into the fog housings. they are pretty bright too and i'm very happy with them. direct swap with the bulbs, no error codes.

Installed a set of Phillips Xtremevision LED’s. Happy with the results, these match perfectly.

That looks great, I have a non-facelift so I'll have to see how my LEDs match something like that.

I have always been happy with Osrams CBI cool blue intense xenon bulbs and their matching fogs the xenon bulbs are expensive but their fogs are pretty cheap.

Color matching the OEM DRLs is futile. Lol. I've yet to see anything match.

yup they're great for the value. i've had them maybe 6 months or so now, no issues. and they offer a 2 yr warranty on them anyway. but i'm happy with them, good brightness, and the light itself looks good.

    Has anyone tried these out?
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-2012-A...hZNOKA&vxp=mtr

I thought they looked strange but then after looking into them the bars of an s-line fog grill align with the cutoffs.
If anyone has installed these please let us know what your thoughts are!

These lights in this video are awesome and would like to know if this was a set purchased or if they modified the Skota LED fogs. Check it out!

^^ those ebay ones are interesting. they do look weird at first but probably wont look that bad when installed, just like the facelift horizontal shape. but i think it's more for the cutoff, and it has a built in LED, so the narrower lens is to get a better cutoff it seems. i wouldn't mind having those actually as long as i knew the LEDs were good quality though. looks sealed up so doesnt look like you can swap out the LED, but they look good though, cheap enough i may try them if my housings ever went bad or anything.

i havent looked recently but i always wanted fog housings with the projector lens on it, i've seen them for some VW's but nothing direct fit on the B8.

the fogs on that A6 in the video, may just be custom, probably not that complicated to do. or get one of these, paint them black and stick em on the fogs. easy push on before you get in the car LOL.

ANNNNND you're right haha they are forever ruined and I don't like them now... As for the blinking it is caused by the shutter of the camera. They don't actually blink but with slow motion camera work they appear to strobe. Same is true with the DRLs but we don't perceive it. haha I think I'll just pick up some click lights and be on my way. Hang on guy I have to turn on my fogs, Click click.

LOL yea that't the first thing i thought of when i saw those, i was like waaaait those look familiar haha. i think you can honestly run with these, put them behind the fog grilles in place of the housing, don't let anyone see you click click, what else could go wrong. someone needs to do this lol.

i've only liked that look on the Porsche lights, but they look better on the bigger headlight housings, when small in the fog they look like those clicker lights to me. and yea the blinking in the video is just from the camera, happens to a lot of LED lights on video.

LED lights can sometimes strobe on camera when the LED driver and the capture frame rate of the camera go out of sync. I won't get into the details but it's normal.

How did you handle the balast/cables coming off the bulbs? Were you able to secure them to the underside somehow?

I just got these in the mail today, figured it would be a cheap thing to just toss in for fun. Well I popped one in and nothing happened, turns out the plug is polarized opposite (a note they say to look for), so I flipped it and it turned on a bright blue! I then realized the packaging said blue/yellow since they sent me the wrong one, but it does change colors when you turn off and on again. Kind of a neat option. Since the polarity was wrong the plug won't stay in, so I just sent them back. If they have a plug option for the correct polarity I would try them again, I just wanted to see if the color was close to the LEDs.

I did the same as I've never found a match with a tinted halogen bulb and never trusted the no-name LED products. I am intrigued by the Phillips LED. Added them to my cart on Amazon and will give them a shot if the price drops or when I save up enough rewards.

it's pretty easy. 2 methods but the easier way is to get behind the wheel well liner, unscrew the 2-3 screws near the bottom and you can lift the flap up and see the fog bulbs right there.

the harder way is if you remove the fog grilles, then unscrew the housings and take em out, like JeriQo's pic above, but no need to do that for just the bulb. way easier to get it behind the wheel liner, you just have to turn the wheel all the way to the inside so you have enough clearance. then same for the other side when you do it.

haha, you still did complicate it. i dunno, for me the wheel is super quick, all i need is the 1 size torx. no trying to clip off fog grilles and all that. but i mean either way is quick really after you do it a few times, i just prefer this way. the other way i'd only do if i was doing something with the housings.

which LED bulb you use btw? is it just a generic/no-brand one?
