7 speed s tronic upgrade to zf 8 speed?

I find the ZF8 maddeningly slow to downshift. Up shifts are fine, but downshifts are slow to happen, lag when i ask for them, and clunky.
This is my first auto in 15 years and I'm not impressed.
The DSG in a loaner Q5 was light years ahead in feel and quickness.

This is so weird. I test drove a DSG Audi S4 B8.5 and 2 C7 A6 with paddle shift and there was barely any noticeable difference. I was actually unimpressed with the S4.
