I Need Some Input: 19 or 20 Inch Wheels?

After winter I plan on getting some new tires for my Q5. And along with that, I'll be getting new rims also. So, should I go with 19's or 20's? I really like the way 20's look but I just want to get some opinions before I make a decision. Also, if you have 19's or 20's on yours and could post some pics that would be great!

No way I'd go smaller than 20" for a new summer wheel. 20's look better, you can still get tons of sidewall, the extra spend for the wheels is very little, and tire prices can go either way.

Hit my Flickr, and you'll see at least 10 different Q's on 20's.

Just don't go too thin on sidewall if it's an area where the roads'll be terrible after winter. I've only briefly driven through Connecticut every time I've got that way, but having lived in NJ and MD, I know winter absolutely kills the roads. I've gotten some bent wheels from some hard-to-see potholes before

It's interesting - and of course, subjective - but given the choice of 19 vs 20, I go for 20 every day of the week. The look is just right to my eyes, and the handling just a wee bit better, and no noticeable cost to braking, acceleration, or ride quality. Plenty of great tire choices out there as well. (Now...20 vs 21...the waters get murky, at least in my experience.) Unless you have a strong aesthetic preference for the 19" size, I think you'll be very pleased with 20's.

I specified the 20" OEM summer tire package on my new '17 3.0T Q5.

The rims are 8.5 wide. Tires are Bridgestone Dueller HP Sport 255/45/R20 101W. Sticky summer compound. I'm at about 18,000 miles now.

They grip well, wet and dry. Even with Stage 2 tune, probably around 420 crank hp, I can't break them loose from a dig even with launch control activated. There may be stickier tires rated for 4,300 pound SUV, but they do quite well.

Tread wear is very good. I am sticking with the stock rims when time to replace these tires. Wider rims and tires seem of questionable benefit, considering that they would only add weight and that grip is excellent now. It's not like I want to run autocross in an SUV.

20" rims of your choice, stock width with dedicated speed and weight rated summer tires would be a nice upgrade for you.

19s are only acceptable for winters and even that is pushing it. This will probably be the last year I run a 19. They're just too small.

    ^^^so much this^^^

I'm in NJ and the roads are a battleground with potholes after the winter, that's why i'll be going with a 295 setup when I get new summer 20" rims & tires.

OP~ i'd keep what you have and make them your winter set-up (if you need one) and get some nice 20's for summer. Hit up Mops on here, he's got some sick rim deals going on!
