    Me.

Officially rejoined the bad decision club today at lunch. I purchased the car as a blown-motor flip-- but we'll see whether or not that winds up happening.

End game is to just get into an RS4 and enjoy it, but I'd rather buy outright than finance - so I may be in and out of B6's until such a time comes.

2004 1.8T Sedan, Quattro, 6spd, Reflex with black interior, sport and cold-weather packages. Pretty good shape for 133k, and for $700 who can argue.

I'll update this thread as I swap the engine out and start messing with it. Feels good to be home.

LOL. We'll see. I've got a complete, fresh, stock 1.8 for this one for $400 from a friend. I'll be in this one too good to not sell it if it goes for what the comps in my area are. Maybe if I can land another B6 with that profit I'll look into a single Turbo 2.7

or you could just build it out to a 2.0 and have another solid 400hp beast for under 5k.

There's zero chance I could recreate my previous build for 4K. Even if I got the parts used. I had more than that in the engine and Turbo alone, nevermind the fueling, tune, suspension, brakes, clutches, etc.

Also the last one ate transmissions and clutches for breakfast/lunch/dinner. I'm not trying to have that headache again.

So much BS in a stock B6. This thing was in MAJOR need of some love - I think everything that could be leaking was.

Good thing I'm just putting a whole motor in it lol

    "Well maintained"
    "No leaks"
    "Clean car"

This is why you should always get a used car looked at by a pro before you buy. For me it doesn't matter because the motor is junk - but if I had bought this as a driver and found this shit after I'd be FURIOUS. Not just leaking - but been leaking for a long long time.

I guess for the average driver if it isn't leaving a puddle of oil on the ground it isn't leaking.

Apparently so. I did some thinking/soul searching and I think I'm going to do evap/SAI/cat deletes while everything is apart. Maybe do a 1+ injector tune if I can get my hands on some 225's cheap enough. No sense putzing around in a stock a4, right?

hahaha! Unless someone has really gone nuts with a stock displacement motor it's still probably the fastest/quickest. I've been in and out of so many other cars since then though that I've not really kept up with it. This one may get a few small mods so that it's not a huge pain in my ass while I'm driving it, but at the end of the day it's a flip. If I get another B6 to keep it'll need to be a 6 speed avant with a black leather interior - preferably a USP or an S4.

Because its a 133k mile/14 year old car and most of that shit turned to dust coming off the old motor. Even at my cost it's cheaper and easier to delete those things than to replace the various hoses with OEM or aftermarket, will allow me better access to other problematic parts of the motor, let me clean things up a bit, and won't cause me any short or even medium term issues. (or long term that I'm aware of). I've got access to all the tuning fixes for the readiness and CEL's, and really no reason to put that stuff back in.

    compelling enough?

I'm curious which evap parts/functions you think can be deleted without any negative repercussions (short or long term). I specified evap as I know the benefits to removing SAI and the cat. I'm not being argumentative, I just want someone to provide a reason beyond "simplification" and to detail how they are going to mitigate the loss of each evap function.

They do, but like I said - I can get readiness coded to permanently pass. Nobody is going under the hood looking for any of these parts.

What exactly are you under the impression that EVAP does? It's an emissions system that puts gasoline vapors into the intake tract. they leak and set faults/CEL's. Getting rid of that is one less thing A) in my way and B) to be a set back at inspection time.

helps depressurize the fuel tank for one, which is even more important on cars running a non-returnless fuel system due to the returned fuel being much hotter. Ripping out something because it causes a CEL when malfunctioning seems like the equivalent of amputating a broken finger.

....the tank will have an open vent. It's not like I'm sealing the system - it will always be at equilibrium.

Also, returnless systems stay cooler. the fuel never cycles through the rail/past the engine to heat up - out the pump and right back into the tank via bypass in the filter if not used. That's half the reason they DONT use returnless systems on things like diesels where fuel temperature really matters. You've gotta have the heat that you put into the fuel to get it running right.

It's more like removing a tumor before it turns cancerous. It's an emissions system and nothing more.

Small update. Lots of new little things went on the new motor (because they didn't make it off the old one in one piece). O rings, seals, plugs, and gaskets everywhere. New clutch kit. Stage 1 stuff. Emissions deletes.

I'm definitely glad that I'm replacing the motor with a fresh one and not rebuilding. This guy did literally zero maintenance and had what was more or less a time bomb of a motor. (Well. He did let coolant leak all over the timing belt for a month and blew it up.) If it hadn't been the belt, it would've been something else.

Annnyyyyyy who, looking forward to getting the basic stuff on there so that I can address all the small cosmetic stuff. Are people still just doing USP bumpers, S4 blades, and RS4 replicas? I hope so cause that's probably what I'll wind up with.

Not sure if it's still considered 'cool', but I think my car checks all those boxes:
