Ignition Coil Shaft Oil Seal Torn

2010 S4. I changed my spark plugs the other day when I went APR dual pulley. I noticed pieces of what I thought was o-ring material in several of the ignition coil shafts. Long story short, I ended up being able to pull out a complete, although distorted one (pic attached). These seals must seal oil out of the shaft.

Here’s my question: can I replace them with the valve covers still on or do I need to remove them? In addition, is there an immediate need to remedy this or is it not a big deal? I’ve had the coils out a few times now and never had this issue. Thanks in advance.

that looks like the sealant from the cam girdle when the cam girdle is torqued down to the head and the sealant squished out .

This makes me feel better, it sounds like it’s just excess RTV and that there’s no action required. It makes more sense now bc most of the silicone I found was just fractions of pieces; however, the one I posted a photo of is definitely a very irregular shape.

I’m feeling pretty lucky on this one bc when I first noticed this, a piece of silicone was dangling in the open spark plug hole and I saved it before it fell into the cylinder.
