The seller contacted me asking if the calipers were for an alternative application. Did anyone else get this question? Would he cancel my order if I told him it wasn’t for a Macan?

Odd, but best to simply answer "no" and avoid finding out

I couldn't find a logo that was an OEM look from Audi other than S4, RS, Audi Ceramic, which I was not about to put those on an allroad. Quattro was the best fit and I almost did that, but I had played with the calipers behind the wheels before painting them and loved the way it looked with Porsche. If I didn't paint them the logo would have been on there anyway (some have issues with this logic). I realize that some folks think this is a poser move (which it may be), but I love the way it turned out and am very happy with my decision.
Where did you get the PORSCHE decal. Seems like ebay has everything under the sun except Porsche ones.

Yea they are very hard to find, almost like Porsche sued everyone who was selling them... I got mine through this site http://www.brakecaliperdecals.co.uk/...Caliper-Decals which the 75mm is the exact size of what comes on the caliper. They are really high quality and were shipped quicker than decals I bought from USA Ebay sellers.

Safest way to know is to print out the template from ECS's kit. For the most part, yes they will fit, but there are variables that might make it too snug, for example I have a set of the alzor rotor replicas for my winter wheels and though they do fit at a ET45, I will be running spacers because the face clearance is 1-2mm and that is too tight for me, especially on a winter set. If your ET is 43 or 35 ish you should be ok, but print the template to be sure.

    Question.

I was just going to "hot swap" the brake lines onto the new calipers while having a buddy pour brake fluid as needed into the res to avoid air in the lines but ECS had a sale on Schwaben parts and I got the ATF/Oil/DSG/brake bleeder kit for a good price and figured having a power bleeder would make it much easier should my buddy flake out and I end up being a 1 man crew.

With that said should I bleed the system dry so I can easily swap the calipers and refill (I have a vag com and should be able to do the ABS test) or should I still do the hot swap and try and not let any air into the system?

I just quickly swapped the lines. By letting it run dry you’ll just make the bleeding process more difficult by introducing excessive air into the system (and ABS pump).

Just cap the lines at the hard point where you remove your OEM brakeline until you're ready to install the new line, then bleed as normal. There's no sense in running the system dry on purpose.

Got my calipers yesterday. They came from Germany, but they didn’t take long (under 2 weeks). The seller asked me for a vin, I gave him a friends vin and then he asked for further clarification (vin showed two caliper options). I told him I knew that’s the part I needed.

    Happy modding everyone

I did the upgrade a few weeks ago. I added SS lines and went with Akebono pads. I don't plan to track the car.

I like the linear feel, and the lack of "grabbiness" with the Akebono ceramics, but I'm not thrilled with the initial pedal travel.

    1. Did ya'll just get used to the pedal uptake?
    2. Who also did an RS4 master cylinder? Did it return the pedal uptake to pre-mod (stock) height?

First time I hung calipers to paint with g2 I was 80% done and one fell. Luckily I caught it but it ruined the finish, I spilled most the paint, and I couldnt fix it. Sanded it down and painted it again. Learned a lot the first time and second time came out much better.

Really happy how it came out overall. Spent 80 plus 20 on brushes. Found a shop that would sandblast and powder for 70 (both) but then I would have had to get new seals and its an 1.5 hours away.

Just wanted to update any of you who had questions about pad compound.

I had originally went with the Pagid / Hella "OE" compound pads that you can get from various vendors like FCP Euro for around $45 to $70 bucks if I recall correctly depending on sales

I have these same pads on my 911 and they work pretty decently so I figured Id try them here. Well, its always important to remember that the same pad "compound" from a manufacturer is not always going to behave the same way from car to car.... in this case they definitely DONT.

First, be aware that although these are advertised on some sites as "OEM" all that means is Pagid is an OEM supplier to Audi or VW. These are absolutely NOT the OEM pads that came on the Q5, Macon, or even our A4 or S4 cars. They're not even straight up Pagid pads. These are the cheap line of Hella / Pagid pads. Now, I already knew this and was fine with that but some of you may not be aware.

    Pictures:

I have since swapped these pads out for the real OEM pads, which are Brembo pads. See Pictures....

    PERFORMANCE:

    FADE RESISTANCE

The fade resistance of the Pagid/ Hella pads was below performance of the 300mm Stock A4 brake rotors and pads. And this on on the upgraded 345mm 4 piston caliper setup. They also performed significantly worse than the OEM Q5/Macon Brembo pads. During aggressive break in you could see the Pagid/Hella pad material wearing in and breaking down off the pad in slivers of brake pad material instead of dusting. It was similar to how you may recall when you sharpened Crayola Crayons in the old days and the slivers of the wax came off the tip out of the sharpener. THats how the pad material looked at the edge of the pads. It was very easy to get smoke from the front pads as well. No such drama at all with the Brembo pads.

    INITIAL BITE:

People often confuse the terms "initial bite" and "cold bite." Its important to make a distinction IMO. Initial bite refers to the bite characteristics of a pad when it is operating within its ideal temperature range. So when the pad is in its temperature range, does it grab like the OEM pads or is it more progressive like a ceramic pad... or somewhere in between? The OEM pads are usually conisdered "grabby" by most and have a ton of initial bite. Some like this a lot. Some dont like it at all because they like a bit better pedal modulation. Its a personal preference thing. That said, the Pagid / Hella pads have decreased initial bite from OEM. Similar to a ceramic pad. The Brembos have very slightly decreased initial bite compared to the OEM A4 pads but it is extremely similar. They definitely do bite but they have some progressiveness to them as well. You can push harder and get more brake. Theyre a very nice all around compromise in initial bite and progressive modulation.

    COLD BITE:

As mentioned, cold bite is distinct from the concept of initial bite. It refers to how the pad grabs or bites in those first pedal applications after you start the car. Say, pulling out of the driveway or pulling to that first intersection after leaving work. This depends greatly on the pad compounds optimum temperature range. An endurance race pad may work awesome at 500 degrees but very poorly at 100 degrees. Here is where the Pagid / Hella pads performed very poorly compared to stock and compared to the OEM Brembo Pads. The poor cold bite on the Pagid/Hella led me to believe I either hadnt gotten all the air out of the system or was driving on ceramic pads. The first brake application requires considerable more force then when you have applied the brakes from a 45mph speed several times. Once heated up the initial bite is improved considerably but still not near the level of OEM or Brembo. This is a very important characteristic to me as IMO any street pad should be ready to rock and roll right when you start your car. You never know when you may need to panic stop to avoid something. It may be backing out of your driveway. The Brembo pads perform flawlessly in this manner. They inspire confidence the first time you touch your brake pedal. Whats really cool is that not only do you get great cold bite but you also get oustanding fade resistance so the operating temperature range is very wide with this pad.

    PEDAL MODULATION/FEEL

Can a simple change in pad compound change pedal travel or pedal feel? Dont I have to change my master cylinder for that?

You bet a change in pad compound can change this and this was proof of it for me. There is no question in my mind that the Pagid/Hella pads must be compressing more or else not have much coefficient of friction compared to the Brembos because you absolutely have to push the pedal further down and harder in order to get similar brake force to the Brembos. If you notice in the pictures the Pagid/Hella pads are champfered on the edges so you are making contact on only the center section of the pad. The Brembos are not. They are flat. Does this make a difference in feel? It could I suppose. No issues with brake bleeding and no issues with the stock master cylinder. I had simply chosen a poor pad compound initially.

NOTE: All testing was done with fresh Motul RBF600. Brake fluid was not determined to be a factor in the results.

Just to update. Im not a big returner of parts but fcp advertises a costco like satisfaction guarantee so i reached out to them regarding my experience with the pagid/hella pads. Now i had already bought the oem brembo pads too so clearly i wasnt trying to return pads for any other reason than not being satisfied. Fcp were really understanding and even asked for specific feedback to pass along. They also offered a credit on the hella pads which was really nice.
