The German dealerships are absolutely the worst for service with a US spec car. I lived there for 15 years, and basically had to hand-walk them through anything I wanted. Best thing to do is pull it up on ETKA and try and get a parts person to try and order it. If not, you will have to contact a dealership in the UK for help.

The German parts folks would often tell me "We can't order it without the VIN" or its not allowed. Better learn some of the language, and also looking for another dealer, or German enthusiast sites can help too.

Had the same problem with motorcycle parts and upgrades too! They can be really stupid, and always fall back on the "It's the TuV" BS.

At about 2000k (3-4 weeks ago) the Max Oil Level Warning came on and it's been there ever since. Going in this week. When I called the dealership they said it could be condensation. It's been pretty damn cold here....

Car went to the dealer on Friday for high oil temps and engine light...got a call back from the dealer today telling me that it was bad fuel compression and the problem was solved with a reflash on the ecu...yeah im not buying it. I doubt when I go to the dealer tomorrow that the oil temps will be stable. Disappointed, given that the car just hit 5k miles.

Biggest thing for me is the rattles with the music..

I do not even have the sub or the bass all the way up. I just play the music loud and I get the rattles..

Also apparently I have a fair amount of curb rash on all four wheels from average pot holes here in the winter which is depressing.

Not odd ...they changed the design of the back callipers, they newer built cars donít have the same design rear callipers.

You're right, it's not odd, it's an obvious problem that needs to be fixed, as some dealers are beginning to do for owners bringing their cars in for this issue. Without the S logo brake cover the system looks unfinished and incomplete. It's a cheap way to make a buck, Audi, shameful.

I talked with my dealer and they ordered the covers for the rear brakes, got a call from them today and they are in. Will take it by there in a couple of weeks to get them installed. It was a unknown issue to them and my salesman had to check on it but he got back to me and said it is supposed to have them on.

Every now and then I hear a very faint cyclical ticking\pop sound coming from the center console (Possibly the passenger side speakers hard to pinpoint). It starts off fast and then slows down. The car seems to only do it when the engine is on and does so when stationary or moving. I'm wondering if it's some kind of electrical interference from a sensor or something. Has anyone else experienced this? My car also seems to be missing the rear S-plates, I'm debating on keeping a list of these issues and just waiting until I go back to get my summer tires on.

Hmmm the ticking could be related to this. https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a4-...tenna-2922153/

Not sure if you read through all the data on the rear S plates, but unfortunately it's not as simple as ordering the covers because they have pegs on the back that use bushings to insert into holes on the brakes. The brakes we have without covers are from the A4 and don't have these holes. Just be prepared for more thrash. The only solution I've seen so far from others (I think only one person has had it done) was to replace the entire rear brake system with the correct one for the S4.

There is copious more discussion and information on this at these links:

after about 1K miles, it looks like mine developed a tapping (creaking) noise by the rear deck. Any one know if the TSB for the A4 also applies for the S4? What should I tell my service advisor?

So I had my dealer contact Audi. They said based on my VIN, I am supposed to have back S4 plates on calipers.

Audi sent plates but like everyone else, they do not fit. So dealer is continuing to look into it. They had two S4 on lot, the one with the S package did have covers on back calipers.

In my opinion the calipers look bigger then mine without covers. S5 on the floor with S package had calipers with badge.

I will post what happens from here.

At 2000 miles now, but from between 1000-1600, I got this "drive system malfunction" error 3 times (goes away after turning off the car for 5 minutes). Have an appt (w/ loaner) to have it looked at.

    Flat out wrong.

I have no facts to back up what I think has happened but non the less this is my theory:

I believe that this decision to change calipers stems from the fact that the A4 got the Black Optics package option. This option gives you red calipers just like the S Sport package gives you red calipers. What I think was done was the A4's red REAR calipers were used on the S4 as well. I know the rear rotors are physically different (A4 13.0" vs S4 13.1") but the caliper may be the same. I need someone who has access to parts to verify this. This was done as a cost saving measure as both the A4 and S4 I would assume go down the exact same assembly line.

The question remains is that SOMEONE made this call. I don't understand how no one at Audi seams to have an official response. You would think with multiple dealers ordering rear calipers or at least making inquires about it that it would raise a red flag and trigger an automatic review of this subject.

As I said this is all speculation and I could be 100% wrong. Wish we had an official response from Audi.

    Response I got from Audi:

For the Audi S4 models produced in the first 22 weeks of 2017, the correct S sport line rear calipers did have an S logo on them. For models produced in the 23rd week of 2017 or later, the correct S sport line rear calipers do not have an S logo on them.

So mine was apparently produced after the 23rd week

Not that big of deal ..something you canít see most of time anyways, Iím just glad it wasnít different pistons or size which was or is most important to me and not aesthetics.

Thanks for finding out, I pretty much came to that conclusion anyways with talking to my dealer but glad have another confirmation.

I get it for sure. My SQ has the rear plates. But in my case, I'm not going to ask my dealer for something that was not supposed to come on the car. But I'm sure I could buy them. SQ guys were buying them for like $90 for the pair.

I think thats the problem. There is no way to retrofit the plates on these updated calipers. If it were that simple I would have no problem dropping $90 bucks or whatever the cost may be. People have bought just the plates and reported they don't just clip on. Someone showed a diagram of the old calipers and there were physically 2 holes on the caliper for the plate to insert into.

Now if someone wants to make updated plates that fit into our exciting calipers I'll be their first buyer

Sorry to be short but yep yep exactly that. The SQ guys shaved the tabs and attached with strong adhesives.

Reviving this thread and taking back to NON brake caliper discussion.

Yesterday, drove into work fine, went to leave for lunch, press start button it cranked for about a 1/2 second (vs the second or two it usually takes to start), no start. Try again... 5 or 6 times... same thing. Walked to lunch, came back an hour later, 1st attempt, same thing, 2nd time it cranked for about 3-5 secs (longer than typical) and roughly started up. I had the door open and got a whiff of gas/exhaust that seemed heavier. After hunting for idle for about 10 secs, it settled down. no error messages or abnormal lights. Shut it down, went back into the office. Came out at 5 started right up like nothing ever happened. Dropped it off at the dealer on my way home... awaiting to see if they can find anything (I'm not expecting them to, but we'll see - annoying...3100 miles).

Spit balling here but maybe low pressure fuel pump issue? Did you hear the pump prime as usual when you opened the door?

Mine suffers from way too much awesome.

Thank you to dbuxton for saving me a shitload of typing. great post.

I have noticed the left side grocery bag hook is missing from ALL new B-segment cars (A/S 4/5/5SB). If you stick your head in there and look, you'll see there are slots there for it to be installed, but for some reason, the factory is not including them. Bitch about it to your dealer and they will likely install the second one for free. We always have.

Actually, I do have one gripe: frequently, when I shift the car into reverse, my backup cam comes on but the top view cam does not. I have to go into my parking system settings and manually turn it on. To get into the parking settings and back out to cam view, it's only 4 clicks, but is pretty annoying. I have yet to find a rhyme or reason as to why it sometimes populates the camera system with the top view turned off rather than on, it's just been luck of the draw. I think the car ought to just remember the last setting I had it on and continue to use that, but it doesn't. Drives me nuts. I asked our shop foreman if there's some setting I don't know about that would handle this (and I feel I know the tech on these cars as well as anyone), and he said there isn't one he's aware of either. I'd love to learn there was something I didn't know about the camera system, but so far, I've not found a fix for this.

Also, sometimes my face wears out from smiling when I romp on the gas in Dynamic mode. Buyer beware!

Hmmm, I haven't paid attention to notice the sounds, but but funny you mention as that's what i told my service adviser. Seemed like sensor was telling the starter to stop - like in the event of low or no fuel pressure...

I've had a few other scratch the head issues with my car, but i figured it was something I did (or my kids did) thus far, but nothing major:
    1. a couple of times the lights (convenience lights when opening doors) stayed on after leaving the car (unlocked in my garage). Opening/closing doors did nothing, when locking the car and all seems to reset.
    2. sometimes when i put the car in park, it automatically turns off - as in switch the car off like i hit the st/st button. I'll reach down and hit the button out of habit to turn off, and the engine will start. Happens when shutting down in both S and D modes... I figure this is a convenience thing when following a specific pattern, but i don't know what I'm doing to make it happen. I spoke with one of the technology advisers about it at the dealer, the kid I talked to said his new A3 sometimes does the same thing and he hasn't figured it out yet either. I need to check the owners manual still.

This is a known issue. Supposedly Audi is working on a software solution to stop this from happening and instead save the previous camera setting.

Its actually my wife's car so I don't drive it everyday but is it possible you are opening the door when its in park causing it to shut down? I think I remember a salesman showing me something like this on a test drive. I also have her stop/start coded off so I don't know if that changes anything as I have gotten out of her car in park and it will be running. I do set the parking brake so maybe if you don't set the brake and open the door it shuts off?
