Just to add, i realize that there is a kit for this on ECS Tuning but i dont have $250 to spend for a minor convenience so think of this as a possible budget version

Jetta mk5 hinges and gas struts. Re-drill one hole and it bolts right up.

is re-drilling that hole necessary? can you leave it un bolted or does it hinder the function of the trunk? im kinda hesitant to drill into the trunk lid

i left that bolt out and just used 2 of the 3 that attach the hinge to the fender. Hinge to trunk lid matches up perfectly

I dont have the exact part numbers on hand, but its the mk5 jetta trunk hinges. When you compare the mk5 hinges with the b6 ones they look almost identical

Parts you need if using B7 parts
    2x 4F5827665A (Springs)
2x 8E5827552K (Struts - different gas pressure to std struts)
    8E5827302H (Right hinge)
    8E5827301H (Left hinge)

or just search fleabay for Jetta mk5 hinges and gas shocks. the key to the auto open is the little springs on there and the higher pressures gas shocks.

I'd be the guy to have it open and bang into the garage door or something ridiculous.

Same! I would love to do this but recently got a CF trunk lid. Not sure how springing up faster would fare.

You could probably change out the spring to controll how quickly it pops up since that carbon fiber trunk would be a lot lighter

I got the struts and just to find the right strength springs.
I am still kind of worried about getting a smack on the chin, but if you can do it safely with a toddler, I may take my chances!

I tried on the Avant and gave up. The Allroad/A6 Avant struts put to much stress on the anchors imo

I tried the Jetta hinges but didn't really like the additional pressure it took to close the trunk lid. So I just went back to stock.

    Just my 2 cents.
