    Q5 2.0t Tuning Options

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I'm looking into getting my Q5 2.0t tuned in the upcoming months. As of now I'm leaning towards a Revo Stage 1 Tune but I just wanted to get some of your opinions on what tune to get.

    I tried Neuspeed and APR(first stage1 then 2 now 2 with intake)
I would say APR will be better than piggyback

I wanted the ability to flash the ECU at home so I went with Integrated Engineering. First Stage 1 and after I installed a downpipe with high flow cat and an intercooler, I’m at Stage 2. It’s pushing 28 PSI peak boost now and it’s a huge improvement over stock.

Look at Unitronic. I have used them exclusively on all my Audi 2.0T engines and they are amazing. Spend the extra $50 for Stage 1+ and buy 93 Octane gas.

Mine's a '12 Q5 2.0T. Did a Unitronic Stage 1+ (and a high flow downpipe). The tune almost eliminated any low end lag, smoother in all gears, increased fuel mileage in my case (3-5mpg).
Generally quicker and more responsive overall..

Interesting, I messaged IE when they had their Black Friday sales and was told they do not specifically make any tunes for 2.0T Q5's. Too bad because they would have been the cheapest flash at home option, even after the exchange for us Canadians, when all was said and done. At least when you factor in the BF prices.

Since I too desired for a flash at home option (I'm with EPL myself for my S4), Iended up buying a Unitronic Stage 1+ for my wife's Q5 instead. EPL said they weren't going down the 2.0T market unfortunately, otherwise, I would have stuck with them. Anyway, our Q5's ECU is apparently too new (it's a 2016 Q5), so I'm still awaiting Uni to create a new file just for ours. I'll report back on the Uni tune once we actually get tuned.

The Q5 shares the same motor (CPMA) as the B 8.5 A4, A5 and Allroad. The ECU in my Q5 (8R1907115B Rev. 0006) has a box code similar enough to the A4 that the software guy at Integrated Engineering was able to write a file for my Q5 within an hour. I logged some data yesterday and it produced 28 PSI of boost at 3200RPM with a MAF of 230 g/s up top. Great numbers for a Stage 2 tune.

I actually saw some of your previous posts about your tune, which was why I contacted IE in the first place. Our Q5 has the 8R1907115N Rev 0003 ECU (still the same as the b8/8.5 A4's), but here was the reply from them when I reached out to them:

    Hi, Simon.

Thank you for reaching out to us! We do not offer a tune for the 2016 Q5 at this time. This is something that we will hopefully be offering in the near future!

    Thank you,

That’s strange. Sometimes the customer support people get it wrong. In my case I was in contact directly with the tuner. This is what he said about my ECU:

“We're on it now. I am working on the calibration and my software engineer is working on the security coding. We'll add a Q5 drop down, but ya, B8 A4 gets it to the right protocol anyways and from then it goes by ecu ID. We just haven't seen this particular ECU code before.”

That same afternoon, my Stage 2 file was on their server. As of the most current software update, there is even a Q5 2.0T selection in their drop-down menu.

I went with the fully loaded APR Stage I.

Can easily change between modes if your preferred Octane isn't available, and it includes a Valet mode.

Each car is different as is the environment we drive them in. Off the shelf (OTS) tunes are a good “one size fits all” tune but to maximize performance, it’s best to get a custom dyno or e-tune. This enables the tuner to fine tune a car to get the most power out of it and stay within its safe parameters.

I’ve been emailing datalogs and receiving updated files to gain the most timing, boost and best AFR mixture to maximize performance for the gas I use and the environment I drive. It’s a little time consuming but worth it in the long run. I have to say that I’m pretty impressed with the HP and torque throughout the powerband now.

APR. The stage 1+ with the downpipe added about 50HP. Cost for both was $ 1100.

I also rock APR stage 1 on my Q5 and I love it! The tune makes it a fun little ripper.

APR stage 1 adds about 54 hp at the crank on 93 octane (41 at the wheels).

I have a '12 2.0T and went APR Stage 1 (93), had it almost a year. CT has 7 or so APR dealers. They run sales a couple of times a year so if you can catch it right...
    Well worth the money!

Yeah, the dealership I work at is an APR dealer. If I end up going with APR I'll keep an eye out for a sale

Yea I was gonna say I don’t remember so I’d have to check out the numbers on APR’s website. I can’t wait to see how she runs on e85!!!

I highly recommend Excelerate Performance in CT. Those guys did my tune and accommodated my schedule, even though it was slightly outside their hours. Will get all my work done there.

I wish there was more E85 available in CT. From what I can find, there's only one gas station in the state that has it.
