Error free reverse leds for B7?

Anybody have a source for good, error free reverse lights for the B7? Style 1156. I ordered from deAutoLED and they are not error free.

I don't know if this helps but I have a set that don't claim to be error free. They are, however, extremely bright and probably higher draw than most. The resistance is enough for it not to throw the bulb out light.

Your reverse lights aren't on constantly so they won't burn out as quickly. They also don't need to dissipate as much heat.

Just find a set on ebay that look semi okay and only shine light out the end. See if they list what emitter is in them and look it up for specs ignoring whatever the seller claims for brightness.

You'll probably find a set cheap enough that you won't be too upset if they don't turn out.

I don't usually advocate putting cheap parts in my car but in this case it works and I'll make an exception. Either way it's probably going to be a relatively good Cree emitter in some Chinese housing.

I just ordered these, which are advertised to have internal built-in heatsinks/resistors: https://m.ebay.com/itm/6-X-Car-LED-1...=1594578592010

The seller confirmed it will not throw errors. Will report back if that's true once I install them, if not they're going back.

so 5050 leds (what those are billed as) consume 60mA @3V so multiply that out by 26 and divide by 4 to get the draw at 12V and you get 390mA. So that roughly equates to 4.6W real world draw on a 12V line. I am currently running a set of CREE leds on my DRLs that use the same 1156 base that draw 4.9W and get very intermittent errors. Its POSSIBLE thoe LEDs wont throw errors, but if the load sensing criteria are the same as the DRLs (they likely are since they use the same exact bulbs) then you might still get errors. Depends on if they have any load resistors built in which is possible but not gauranteed given you can't see inside the PCB structure on those.

FWIW my LEDs get more efficient as they heat up so they don't actually throw any errors until 5-7minutes into the drive, then the bulb error flickers on and off at random. They draw 6.5W when cold, but only 4.9 when hot as tested on my 12V bench supply, so I'm currently in the process of testing my hypothesis that the load sensing circuit needs 5W to not trigger a bulb out error with some resistors...

I'm planning on doing a writeup if I find time as well.

Can I offer an alternative? I run these - https://m.ebay.com/itm/PAIR-2-Bulbs-...e/400891393309 for my reverse. Super bright and error free.

I'd be worried about the heat output of those bulbs. I mean, I know the reverse lights are rarely on that long, but still...

I have the ledauto and no error messages.
Have had them for about 1 year so far.

Had some eBay ones that eventually died out.

Agreed, that's more than twice the rated power than spec. Not a good idea.

I have a write I posted a while back. A quick search might find it, but I don't know about the pictures showing.
I do have a set I took out that I'm willing to sell.

I would be a bit afraid to run those halogens for current draw if nothing else. But!.. Just as a funny thought for everyone. Many years ago I rigged up my old Passat to have HID bulbs in my reverse. Mind you, I wired it with a relay and it didn't have any bulb out detection.

I wouldn't go to the trouble to do it again but that was awesome. I have considered building my own led reverse lights from parts though. With the Cree XHP50 emitter.

Error free reverse leds for B7?

The Cree based DRLs I’m running now would be killer reverse bulbs. And unless you’re reversing for minutes at a time they won’t throw a bulb out. I can throw an eBay link in in a few.

    Edit: these https://www.ebay.com/itm/CREE-LED-Li...-/142380991984

I chose these because I wanted a specific 5000k temperature but if you’re less picky you have a ton more options.

Yeah, definitely let me know. Thanks. Though it looks like you're getting 6 of them. If they work, maybe we can work out a deal for 2 of them.

You ordered yours from deautoled? And they worked? Were they the 1156 style? Mine posted errors immediately, they flashed intermittently, and glowed slightly when they were off. Very disappointing.

Yes from there. It was the entire housing. Currently at 44.99 for the set.

Sometimes I’ll get a bulb out, but that’s due to the housing being a bit loose, can’t tighten them all the way down.
Either the rubber seal is to thick, or the screw angle won’t allow it to be tightened down all the way.
Once I push them back in, the bulb error is gone.

Shipment got lost unfortunately between DHL and USPS so the seller has sent another set...will update once I get them. Probably going to need all 6 though as the L+R rear light housings need 3 bulbs each (nevermind the lights on the hatch itself).

The 1156 bulbs I got are nearly error free. They only throw errors after 5 minutes of driving. The issue is that their efficiency rises as they warm up so they draw less power so when they reach peak temp/edficiency they’re just under the threshold for the bulb out error and start throwing errors.

I looped a 50-ohm resistor in parallel and got rid of the errors and was able to narrow down the current range for the bulb out error to the 7watt range (+/- 1w) and have zero errors with the resistor and the 1156 bulbs i got.

I haven’t finished the final install with the resistor but when I do I’ll do a quick write up with some of the methodology and components I used to get an error free, super bright DRL setup. Given that the reverse bulbs are the same I would presume that the reverse bulbs use the same bulb out detection and my findings should be relevant.

I’m confused by your statement. They only throw codes after you drive for 5 minutes or during the first 5 minutes?
And you said they become more efficient as they warm up and “under the threshold for the bulb out error” but then say “and start throwing errors “ all in the same sentence.
So are they error free or not lol?

What LED bulbs are you running?
