You can cut the vertical part out completely. I just doubted my ability to do that and make it look decent so I just made that window and I think it will look okay if I put all the cowl stuff back on.

That whole vertical section is held in by spot welds and glue so you could remove it all in one piece by drilling the spot welds.

The bottom part though, where I welded that plate, is like a square tube from shock tower to shock tower. It looked kinda structural to me so idk if I'd cut it back too far. Then again, the metal is pretty flimsy so you might be able to make up for it with a strut brace or just welding like a quarter inch flat from tower to tower.

Idk I was trying to keep the hacking minimal. In the pic I posted, on the left hand side where the battery would sit you can see a bolt. That's for the rack

Chur G, that helps out heaps man, cause having a 3"+ dump doesn't fit very well and will help with working in the back

You should check out the build that Mantis abandoned 😞

He made the most of removing the firewall. On this same page he shows how the turbo is braced to the head.

Calipers and rear sway bar back from powder coating.

The finish on the factory front sway bar is like new after almost 20 years... Meanwhile three years and the pos 034 bar barely had any paint left on it 🙄

Calipers look good... I like the subtle color lol. Did you rebuild them at the same time or do you plan to?

Thanks I'm keeping it low key 😂
The calipers actually still need reassembled.

I had been planning on using this color with gunmetal wheels for quite some time... So I was pretty disappointed when I saw that Subaru was offering pretty much the same color scheme as a factory option on new WRX's 🙄

I know it's been done before, nothing super unique. I just hope I don't start seeing it everywhere.

I ended up getting the intercooler setup from PB5. Hope it fits well lol. I am pretty happy I received it in the quoted lead time.

I feel like that's horrible MAF placement though, right in the middle of that bend...

It looks like the sensor itself will be hit before air hits the bend which is fine. As long as it’s not right after a bend.

Unless air is flowing from the BOV side then yeah that’s no bueno 😂

Yeah, has to flow that way or it would vent metered air. Not the best angle in the pic but it's pretty close to being in the middle of the bend.

I think maybe it got moved back a bit because I asked for a meth bung? Idk lol I feel like that's not going to work out well.

Which can happen on a Tial since they're open @ idle/vac normally (partially). Certainly a strange position for the MAF sensor IMO even without the BOV situation.

I got some numbers for you on the clutches we were discussing from Mike...

The RR Stage 5 is suppose to hold a little over 700 TQ at the wheels; maybe 710-730.
The CM850 Super Single is supposed to hold 800 TQ at the wheels

So I would stick with your SS given the scope of your build, it seems to have around an 80ft/lbs advantage.

You had to cut the firewall and vin# out of the car to make your turbo kit fit!!! That totally sucks. How much power do you expect to make? Hopefully at least 700whp. If not you basically destroyed your cars value by cutting out your vin# just to squeeze in your WDRacing single turbo manifold that wasn't made to proper specifications.

What about the CM725 twin plate? I'm running that at the moment with both ceramic plates, I'm not sure on the price difference compared to your options. I think it's good for around the 1300-1400Nm mark and fairly drivable as to why I went twin plate.

Wow, you think these cars still have value? It's not 2005 anymore.

Lol my thoughts exactly. I got the shell for 1500, I'm really not too concerned.

But, @weslife, if I don't clear 700whp I'll cry lol. I'd like to be around 800whp all said and done but we'll see what happens. It does suck that the kit I waited 8 months on and paid a pretty penny for didn't fit. But oh 🐋 I guess. It fits now lol

That's good to know. I probably would have gone with the stage 5 if it had been available but I guess we'll see how I like the SS

Recently I haven't made much progress on the car, it seems like I can never find a decent chunk of time to work on it.

I got the solid bushings in the subframe and got it cleaned up and looking fresh.

I'm also working on lengthening the wiring harness. I had routed it over the manifold like most people do but it but I thought it looked like a mess so I'm going to try routing it a little differently.

I've also been waiting like two months for SRM's brushless fuel pump. They said it would be a few weeks... I'm about to just get my money back and do dual 450's.

Yeah me too lol. I ordered intercooler piping after that actually, Craig gave me 20% off and lots of apologies so I figured I'd give him another shot.

Ended up filing a PayPal dispute on that too lol got my money back like a week before he shut down. Then people started posting about getting a small percentage refunded if anything... Close call.

Phew. That’s really too bad, they were doing some cool stuff and updating the mods for this platform significantly. There seems to be a really common thread of guys who have awesome fab skills and then get overwhelmed by demand and can’t run the business. That’s not exclusive to this platform either; most small business’s fail in many areas. I own my own company and I underestimated at first how difficult it is to be doing both production and running all other aspects of the company — financial, scheduling, planning, customer relations etc. It’s a monster!

The wiring is coming along... It doesn't look as clean as I'd hoped and took longer than I care to admit lol but this bank is about done.

I ran the crank sensor and knock sensor wiring forward under the intake and the O2 sensor can just go straight through my firewall cut out.

Let's not talk about the rats nest behind the firewall rn lol still a lot left to do.

Ha! At least it isn’t a real rats nest, like I found in my S4.

Thanks! Funny you should say that, I've been setting mouse traps in my garage because I always hear something scuttling around. I've caught a few but still hear things...

Well the other day I heard something and there was a damn squirrel looking at me lol

I was happy with how it was fitting but now that I put the billet subframe bushings in everything seems to sit further back... And now the downpipe is sandwiched tight between the manifold and firewall.

So, it looks like I might be doing more cutting 🙄

Yea definitely an option, and it holds way more. I think the price is comparable to the super single but quite a bit more than the RR. Main advantage I see to staying single is the lifespan and stock ish pedal feel... but that’s good to hear the 725 feels good under normal driving.

That's a good question. In the heat of the moment I just left the wires I ran unshielded but have been having second thoughts on that.

As far as I can tell, the shielding is just tied into the sensor ground. So I was thinking maybe twisting the ground wire around the signal might be good enough.

Alternatively I could use aluminum foil. Cut the insulation back to reveal the factory shield and wrap foil around the extended bit, leaving it in contact with the original shielding on both ends and shrink wrap it.

by using unshielded wire and keeping the part where it is unshielded by the splice point as short as possible

Did you mean "by using shielded wire?"

Seems like the obvious solution lol but I wasn't sure how to ground the shield. Maybe aluminum foil over the outside of the splice, in contact with the factory shielding and whatever shielded wire I use for the extension?

I actually just did this to my front o2 sensor wiring since it got melted from exhaust. luckily I had a spare harness which I stole the wiring and new connector from. I crimp the connections and wrapped the 3 shielded wires in aluminum foil (around the factory shield wire) then wrapped that with electric tape. Not sure if that’s the correct way but that’s what I did for the time being. I plan on building a new harness and was looking at getting some shielded wire like this to completely replace factory wiring.
