Not only cold star but even if I would leave my car for 15 min and start it it would rattle.
to be honest I saw it coming it was doing it so often one day I started the car to go to work and check engine light came on took it to dealer they took both valve cover of and saw both camshaft off. They thought in the beginning my tensioner failed but they said it would be impossible so they took the engine out and determine that chain were stretched no teeth skipping so they had to replace everything

Complete job without the cam adjuster was around 7000$ parts and labor warranty was paying for it and and since the engine was out I did additional things like one engine mount, thermostat, water pump pcv valve and two cam adjuster for the timing chain weren’t covered by warranty payed out of pocket around 2000$

Wow! All said and done I’d feel pretty stoked about that. Investing 2k into a car knowing the common problems are fixed. Would feel good to know your car will last another 100k-150k miles!

Not to thread jack BUT lol. When did it rattle just under cold starts or? Does it in any way mimic the issue mine is having?

2013 S4 45k miles, (currently) stock tune, intake and x pipe r only modifications.

Short version of the story...After the VVT TSB was done at dealer (under warranty) now no longer under warranty, I noticed a faint rattle coming from the driver side firewall were the steering stem comes thru. It's only bet roughly 2500-3000 RPM. Sounds like an exhaust leak or chain rattle.

Only makes the noise under load. When stationary revving in neutral does not make the noise. Even putting car in neutral coasting and free revving motor, noise goes away.

I replaced the drivers side flex pipe bec the Audi tech claimed it was leaking, but it was not (shocker I know)

I took a video to help describe the noise:
    https://youtu.be/4NaNoJncGbI

    Sound only link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-Pn...w?usp=drivesdk

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
