Any pics of the HUD itself? How oem does it look? How do you chose what to reflect on it?

What about front cam... any solution yet to get it to turn on for set nb of seconds when you shift from P to D?

Hi Daniel, I read the news on the other 10.25” thread.

How about updated firmware for 7” RSNAV? When is it rolling out? It will be great with fixes for Carinfo and implementation of OBD2 functionslity?

So this is some form of projection onto the front drivers side windshield in order to watch video feed?
Though I applaud the tech involved, I’m not so sure how that enhances my driving experience. If anything, it serves as a potential secondary distraction.
I’m just waiting for all the dust/fix it’s to be finalized so that when I do finally place an order for the 8.8” version, it should be a straight up install n play without having to go backdoor as often to redo fix its...

Just my 2 centavos but great work D!

Do you know how long this will take? I want to order an 8.8" version too.

I don't mean to be rude, but whenever I'm talking to friends about the RSNAV I always have to add, "but sadly I can't recommend it as it's still sort of an unfinished product." Because, honestly, it's missing some essential and very basic features, like the ability to change audio tracks without having to operate a hard-to-reach touch screen. The MMI media player may be awful in most ways, but at least it let me do that.

Even more frustrating is that this feature seems to be missing for no reason at all. The unit already intercepts CANBUS messages from the MMI console, and specifically those two buttons, but then it maps them to the left and right keys, instead of the skip-back and skip-foward keys. But... why?

I just installed RSNAV into my 2013 A4 with the Concert Radio. Overall this system is great, but there are some system and documentation improvements that need to be made.

    Issues:
    1. After reconnecting the battery I received an error “Dynamic Steering System Fault” and now the steering feels tight. I checked the canbus and the pins and connections seem fine. Any recommendations on how to fix this?
    2. For the most part, the car info app doesn't work, it only shows open doors, not speed, RPM, or seat belt status.

    Things I've learned:
    1. After you disconnect the battery, do not shut the trunk or you will be unable to re-open it. If your rear seats fold down you can access a latch on the back side of the trunk door to open it. If they do not fold down you will need to connect jumper cables to the positive and negative posts in the engine bay, then you will be able to open the trunk.
    2. I was able to easily pry out the center vents using a
    3. The 3.5mm female must connect to the AMI in the glove box in order for the Bluetooth and System sounds to work. Without having this connected only FM sound will work.
    4. Instead of drilling a hole into the AMI to run the 3.5mm female, I removed the rubber tray by lining up the circle notches and then popping it out. I was then able to run the 3.5mm cable through the back of the AMI where the tray used to be.
    5. There are 10 bolts holding the glove box on. There is also a small plastic panel at the bottom left corner of the glove box that also needs to be removed.
    6. When removing the AMI the notches in the audi keys should face towards each other.
    7. I removed the Audi screen faceplate from the Audi trim surround by using a razor blade to cut the plastic that was melted over. I then used electrical snips to cut away the Audi screen faceplate from the trim surround. I cut near the tabs, but didn’t cut the tabs themselves, the screen faceplate broke away easily. I then cleaned up the tabs so their sides were smooth instead of having a top that overhung the sides.
    8. The screen comes with foam circles and its not very clear on where they go, or how many to use. I used 1 for each of the 4 holes on the screen and attached it to the back side of the hole.
    9. I didn’t glue the new screen faceplate to the Audi trim surround. Instead I installed the screen, popped the faceplate onto the screen, then installed the Audi trim surround. Everything lined up perfectly and I didn’t have to worry about glue running or the trim surround being misaligned.
    10. I disabled “besloudness” in the Android Sound Settings, after doing this the sound is much better. Not surprisingly since a Radio Loudness setting typically causes distortion.
    11. Holding your finger down on an app allows you to select a different app shortcut for the main screen
    12. There is a shift lock override under the ash tray, if you remove the ash tray there is a hole where you can insert a small screwdriver to push a button down that will allow you to move the gear selector without starting the car or even needing the key.
    13. I installed the GPS antenna on the windshield to the immediate right of the rear view mirror with the wire going straight up into the headliner.
    14. The documentation shows removing the drivers a-pillar, but I recommend removing the passenger side a-pillar (same side as glove box) to run the GPS and 4G LTE antennas to the top of the windshield.
    15. When connecting the rear view camera in an vehicle with automatic transmission, you only need to connect the yellow rca to the rsnav reverse camera rca, and the red wire to the brown wire (camera +12v) on the rsnav harness. The red and black wires on the other end of the harness where it connects to the reverse camera are only used for manual transmission vehicles.
    16. When running the rear view camera wire from the trunk lid into the trunk, follow the existing harness on the right hinge and tape the wire to the harness as far as you can into the vehicle. Since the trunk opens and closes you don't want the cable to become damaged. By following the wire you create the same amount of slack needed for the trunk to open and close without damaging the camera wire.

    Recommendations
    1. Add a volume bar showing the current volume level when using the radio knob (currently only working for the steering wheel volume scroll)
    2. Program radio arrows (forward and back) to control bluetooth media (next track and previous track)
    3. Add a 10 band graphic equalizer to customize the sound (maybe an App for this)
    4. The wire for the 4G LTE antenna isn’t long enough to reach the center or the windshield, it should be made the same length as the GPS antenna.
    5. Better documentation especially adding documentation for the rear view camera install

I'll continue to update this list as I think of more things.

Hi guys, I have been lurking for some time here and have just received my 7" unit and registered to the forum. I have a couple of questions related to the install which do not appear to be covered here despite the detailed installation notes from the group. I have read the documentation and seen the wiring diagram etc but am unsure of how to connect the rear cam relay. Also unsure of the mic placement. What have you done with yours?

Also, to break the ice, I thought I'd share a moment with you. Excitedly, I surgically removed the unit from the outer packaging and quickly opened the box. Carefully, I took out the contents one by one, inspected them and mused over the joy to come. Having emptied the contents it dawned on me - No screen! Bewildered, mind racing and in a momentary panic, I lifted the white box out of the outer, still no screen! A wave of disappointment swept over me. How do I resolve this? How much time will it take? Will it cost more? etc.

Then, I stopped, took a breath and, as I looked back at the box, realised that the depth of the outer didn't correlate with the box that I had removed.

I felt really stupid when I lifted the layer of protective foam to reveal the screen in all it's glory.

I did then laugh quite a lot. Stupid is as stupid does I suppose 🙄

Anyway, I hope I at least made someone smile and look forward to any help that can be given.

OBD II BT thing is tricky. It works with those elm327 dongles that have password 1234. Trying to solve it. That's why it's not released.

Also, trying to support carplay, android auto steering key command.

    Hi Daniel

I replaced the battery yesterday and I still have the parking brake problem incl the TPMS error popping up after driving the car for 15min (everytime). Also cleared up all the DTC codes manually but it comes up directly after clearing the code.

I understand there is no real fix at the moment, just keeping you posted as we troubleshoot.

Still like to try and purchase another cable to test it out, because the errors only come up if I use the RSNAV cable in between. OEM cable to CAN-BUS doesn't give me any errors.

Hi Daniel, Just moving my query from the B8 S4 forum to here to ensure it's in the correct section.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 7" RSNav unit that someone local to me recently bought but never installed.
I've been going through the installation instructions, and have a question on the Aux setup.

I've installed a few of these types of units before (the crappy WinCE ones as well as a few crappy Android ones) and the Aux signal was always intercepted directly at the quadlock adaptor.
However on these RSNav units it looks like you either have to run a cable to the AMI or the armrest Aux plug.

Is there are reason for running this cable through the car, that makes it better than intercepting the Aux directly on the quadlock adaptor?
I'm thinking of just splicing into the quadlock adaptor supplied with the RSNav unit for the Aux signal. Anyone else done this on the RSNav? Any issues?

So i would not recommend any alteration but proceed as recommended in the manual.
I understand you are concerned about noise, but in reality the Aux out from the HU already goes through the quadlock, half way along the car to the aux port. Then needs to be routed back halfway along the car to the RSNav aux female port on the noise isolator.

I do not see how much more noise could be introduced by taking the Aux out direct from the quadlock to the RSNav aux female on the noise isolator, completely bypassing the armrest aux part of the circuit, and essentially removing over 2m of aux wire.

You can try, but in most cases it causes some noise problem. i suspect that may have something to do with ground isolation, but that may be not your case.

I am also interested in the outcome because in most cases it caused a noise problem.

    Hi Daniel

Tried to do the June update today.

The version on the wiki shows as M8.1.0.1.05311619 but after the software update my unit shows M8.q5.1.0.1.05311553 (done the MCU and Canbus updates as well)

Also cannot find any option to pair my serial bluetooth device, tried through the bluetooth settings menu. But no response...

Is version 619 or 553 (last 3 digits) the correct version?

Ok left the "searching for bluetooth devices...." for a while and it popped up with OBDII. I was able to pair it...

I'm still having a problem pairing my BT-005 media remote. The device doesn't have a pin/password, connect directly (tested with my phone)

For those who have updated, do you need to copy the update file to the micro SD that came with the screen (in the GPS slot) or can you remove it and install the updates from another micro SD card?
I have the 7" screen North America in my 2013 A4.

    1. I assume the Android OS is not installed on the SD card that comes in the GPS slot, it is instead installed on the ROM of the screen, correct?

    2. Should I not use the micro sd that came in the GPS slot to update the system? or can this be used?

    3. If I use a different microsd card to update the system, do I leave that card in after the update completes, or do I put the original card back in ?

    4. What is the SD card that comes in the GPS slot used for? When I put the card into my computer it shows 4 folders
    system_update
    LOST.DIR
    backup
    Android

    5. Also when I put the SD card that comes in the GPS slot into the computer, the computer prompted: "There is a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it." Is this normal? Should I let the computer fix it?

    6. I first tried to update the Android by using a different SD card in the GPS slot, the Android logo appeared and it began to upgrade, however the upgrade progress bar would get to about 5% and then the screen would flash and the progress would drop down to 0%, then get to 5% again and drop again, it continued to do this about 20-30 times, then the screen would reboot and do the same thing all over again. This lasted for about 1.5 hours. I assumed this may have been due to installing the update file on a different SD card than the one that came in the GPS slot, so I put the update file on the SD card that came in the GPS slot and the next time the screen rebooted I swapped the cards. The update then began to progress further, but then the screen below appeared and I was unable to select any option. The screen then rebooted on its own after a few minutes and booted up with the original android version. I then removed the SD card and re-inserted it to restart the update and again it gave me this same screen. What am I doing wrong?

    7. I am using this update file from the rsnav site
    B8(RSA-10XXX, RSA-70XXX) 1024x600 Resolution, Region North America (LTE BAND 2,4,5,7,41): M8.1.0.1.05281802

I noticed that this is the same file name used for 2 other applications as well (below), should this file be used for all 3 applications? If so, is this the reason why the screenshot says Q5 ?
PQ35(RSB-80XXX) 1024x600 Resolution, Region North America (LTE BAND 2,4,5,7,41): M8.1.0.1.05281802
8V(RSB-70XXX) 1024x600 Resolution, Region North America (LTE BAND 2,4,5,7,41): M8.1.0.1.05281802

    8. Also the CAN BUS update listed on the rsnav site is the same file for Concert/Symphony and 3G MMI Plus, is this correct?
    B8 Concert/Symphony Radio: 2018-06-03,V119
    B8 3G MMI Plus(HN+): from 2013 Facelift 2018-06-03,V119

    9. What types and speeds of micro sd cards does the GPS/TF card slot support?

    White plug wiring diagram

    Hi Daniel,

Is this wiring diagram for the white plug still correct?

    white_plug.jpg

Is the aux signal still sent down the main harness or are those pins now unused?

I'm asking with respect to my previous questions on the routing of the aux signal.

    Another question,
If I connect my phone to the USB port, the charging indicator flashes and keep getting notification that a usb connection has been made over and over.
    Is this normal?

Finally, I bought my unit from someone who never got chance to install it in their car.
The unit came with EasyConnected installed, does this mean it's licensed? Plugging my phone into the USB port to try, and it fails on step one, so not sure if thats a sign it's not licensed or is linked to the above USB connection issue I'm having.

    Please advise.
    Thanks.

Problem solved. Copy the update.zip to SD card. Unload and load your USB pen drive, run the upgrade process.

    Cool Upgrade Successful

Upgrade Successful, For 7" which hard to access the Memory Card.

    Below are the step.

    Download the Firmware

Performing the upgrade using an USB pen drive

It is possible to perform all the updates using an USB stick instead of SD Card? In this way we can avoid to dismount the plastic and the device each time we need to update...
I refer to doing Android + CAN + MCU update. Anyone successed?
    Thanks

Once you copy the file in it, try extracting/inserting the SD virtually using android menu. It works for me.

Just applied the latest updates. Running well. I like the changes to the UI. Nice that the navi can change what app to open.
