I don't even have my bi-pipes bolted to the timing cover, back when I had the silicone boot, it would blow off, and break the plastic off the cover and go into somewhere near the timing belt which can cause issues. That's if it doesn't fly off the throttle body and into the viscous fan, which also has happened. I just leave them off now since I updated to the Allroad Metal TBB years ago and deleted the mechanical fan.

For anyone reading, the timing covers off the 2005 Allroad with the Metal Throttle Body Boot are also UNIQUE to the car, Bipipe doesn't bolt up properly down there if you don't have those specific timing covers. But you can make some sort of bracket if you really wanted to.

EDIT: Now I have heard the allroad timing covers will work even if you don't have the specific 05 cover, but, on a B5 or A6, I can confirm it does not line up properly.

Thank you. Sometimes I need to hear that so I can put things into perspective.

I’m happy to report that after two days Dana is driving really well outside of the timing cover issue I haven’t addressed any further. It goes away once warm and is really only present on cold start. We’re supposed to get snow/ice tonight so I’ll be back to driving Project Dona. I’m only at about one hundred twenty five miles on the new clutch, but I’m shifting the daylights out of her, haha. It’s honestly a little weird getting used to these short gears again. I miss driving a manual, though.

Had a successful run to a local junk yard today. I’m at about 210 miles. Almost halfway there!

Does the rear (transmission) belly pan bolt up to a 2.7? I found one in really good shape, and if anything I’ll use it on my 4.2 if I ever need it.

That's a mighty fine haul there!

It's weird, to me, you found one of those pans. I've never seen one in Canada.

I’m pretty stoked! I got some good stuff.

I’ve only ever seen it on the V8. I was surprised to find it when I took mine off Project Dona. It’s saturated in oil. That’s what has me wondering if it’s a V8 Allroad thing.

Welp, I had to go back for this gem I found and didn’t want to share and potentially lose out on. I’m unsure if it’s a Justin hitch or not, but it’s damn near perfect and the hardware, too.

I also added to the hoard…things along the way and two fuse boxes worth of factory fuses because why not!?

It was raining pretty good again so now my tools are beginning to flash rust. Womp!

I now have 4 hitches for a C5 Allroad. One Curt Class I junker, one Westfalia factory (seen here rusty a little), one aftermarket 2” receiver that came on the Alpaca, and now this beauty. I think I need to let one go…

Today I drove to my work and parked in the parking garage after the family had gone to bed. 420 miles on the clutch…It’s been raining super hard, we’re under a flood warning in Portland, and I can’t idle in the garage and not stink up the entire house.
I 402 lowered the front 25mm and the rear 17mm. I think she looks really good. I want to swap baskets with Project Dona and put on a set of my 19” wheels. Haven’t decided which way I want to go, just yet.

And a couple sound clips from some parking garage fun at midnight!

    https://youtube.com/shorts/eAfkd8YXL...1HMSvq4upTpRls

And lastly, a little 2nd-4th(ish) getting onto the freeway. You can’t see my boost gauge, but I’m able to recall the peak boost on the P3 and I hit 19.7psi.

Prettt happy with that. I know Project Dana is no stage 3 monster or show car, but she’s been my labor of love and I hope she will be a very dependable and fun car for my family for years to come. If you look in the reflection in the mirror, I think I’m tapering down to 14psi for the pull. She feels amazing. Now I need to completely redo the suspension, after I fix this prop shaft.

Looks super healthy on the pull.

Are you doing a full driveshaft service cv’s bearing and everything?

She feels healthy! Took a couple true WOT runs last night and it’s so fun to get into boost!

I think I’m going to bandaid it and put on my JXB carrier bearing support I’ve had for far too long and go from there. Ideally I’ll get a completely new propshaft with serviceable u-joints like @Bordom just got for his Allroad. There’s a company called the Driveshaft Store that I’ve heard promising things about from other folks like Subaru and Honda enthusiasts.

I am putting the jhm carrier repair kit in for the same reason and do an assessment on it while I am in there and go from there, I have that driveshaft company bookmarked, the updated u-joint is a big plus imo and the balancing, if mine is in real bad shape I may go that route and try servicing the stocker as a spare.

I have the jxb carrier but don’t wanna risk cutting that carrier off and the bearing is screwed up, plus the jhm was cheaper and easier to install. So I am sending it back to the store.

Yes. That was the recalled peak psi. 2nd-4th. Pulls level out around 12-14psi. My peak has varried from 16.x-19.x.

Here’s my second WOT pull and I recorded landscape to get my boost gauge.

I’m curious to see how the JHM unit treats you. You’ll probably beat me to it as I really need to get back into Project Dena again. I’d love an honest review, for similar hesitations to yours. I want to keep my prop shaft as OE as possible because if I replace it I’ll use it for my next swap and address the bearing out of the vehicle.

I also have a set of Apikol rear differential mounts I’ll eventually install. They’re the two smaller more rearward ones to help with lateral movement.

Honestly my thinking is the JHM doesn’t require alignment and reversal ability is nice to have, granted if the bearing is bad the end result is the same. I am going to try and inject some grease underneath the bearing while adding the carrier reinforcement. The JXB would be nice if you did driveshaft service as it is a two piece serviceable unit vs the stock style carriers, plus the ability to switch rubber density is nice.

Both have trade offs, the question is what are you trying to do vs what you think is wrong with the unit and your long term plans. Honestly replacing the whole thing one and done does sound easiest. I wanna try the jhm because I think it’s just the rubber around the bearing that is worn out. If it was making worse sounds like a bad bearing new driveshaft or plan an afternoon servicing the stocker with lots of shop towels and using the home mechanics urban dictionary of cuss words to it’s fullest, six pack optional. 😂

You and @Avantly would get along just fine, hahaha.

I agree, though. And to boot, some of them have a bolt you can’t take out.

    My first AR

I was enticed by the siren of a manual Allroad in a junkyard nearby, but it proved to be an auto. Womp. Still got some good stuff.

    Two full sets.

While I was leaving I was again reminded of this annoyance. My temperatures turn to Celsius after I turn off the car and turn it back on. I change it back every time because it bothers me, but is there a way to make this stick? Also, why does it happen so frequently? My other 2 don’t ever do it, but Project Dana has always done it. I don’t really understand it. Sometimes it’ll stick for months to days, other times it’s every time for a while and then back to bigger intervals. Weird!

First cleaning in about 5 years. I doubt I’ll beat that record any time soon.
