Is the trans still there? Go get it. ASAP!

So the broken trans crossmember is a good sign; why? Well, the crossmember is supposed to fracture upon impact versus damaging the transaxle, and it doesn't take much impact to fracture the OE B6/B7 crossmember.

See if the car pricing has gone down, the shift linkage is still attached via the two highlight circles: green and pink circles are where the shift linkage needs to be removed before ya car remove the trans.

    Edit- update:

I'll have a nice little update for us at the end of the week. Brackets were cut via CNC plasma, waiting for DOM tubing to arrive for a final mockup and welding and we will have mounts all taken care of.

^Indeed. Grab that thing! I don't have access to these pick-n-pulls like you guys in the warmer climates, so I have to live vicariously through your junkyard adventures.

Pretty sure that silver bracket is just an exhaust hanger. Here it is in-action, holding the downpipe on a B7 2.0T 6MT:

Haha...if you plan on re-vamping the B5, let me know and I'll set aside a bunch of stuff for ya all nice and clean. We do not have corrosion over here and I don't need 3 or 4 sets of AWM engine brackets, or accessory brackets etc. and would much rather kick it your way.

I wasn't planning to do this anymore, but the trans is still there. Someone pulled the engine so it's real easy to grab.

I have been following for a while, but havenít been motivated as my 01a is pretty stout and I already have a good spare.

Just a thought, the B6/B7 linkage looks very similar to a B5 S4 linkage.

My 01e isnít the best, and when playing around with the gear ratios for the GJV 02x and the 01e S4 trans it doesnít look horrible.

    S4:

    3.0 B6:

My thoughts is that maybe for us S4 owners whom have issues with shift collars and such could swap to an 02x with just about the same work.

We would get some longer gearing which isnít too bad when we are making loads of torque.

If any have the measurements for the lengths of the shift linkages maybe we could find a solution for the S4 owners.

Also on another note, with access to fab work one could make a DTS bar that utilizes the B5 mounts trans mounts(the and comes down and cradles the transmission.

In doing this design there will be more room for downpipes.

But, the only issue is for 1.8tqm as the driver? side mounting point is different if I recall correctly.

This is something Iíve been tossing around for the past week and Iíd simply thought Iíd share. Hopefully it gives people ideas.

Yes, we've kicked around idea of using the oem trans pick up subframe points to route a dts underneath the bell housing, in addition keeping the rear front subframe dts.

Holy shit itís been awhile since I updated. Got the crossmembers back from powdercoating, look great and turned out awesome. Iíll have better pictures including in-car shots later this week for everyone to see.

PS- My buddy made a jig off my B5 Avant, so if anyone wants one and is considering this setup let me know. Iíll have Allroad-specific mounting plates cut next week too.

Check this off the list as this was by far the biggest hurdle.

Yep. And the cool thing is the jig we have set up for an 01X/02X is spot-on and can always make more. Iíll be sending one down to Mr. German tomorrow so he can get his 01X on the road, most likely will be the first one up and running before me.

A little downpipe clearance shot I forgot to load- thereís about 3/4Ē clearance between the crossmember and stock AWM downpipe. It will easily clear a 3Ē setup as long as the flex section is closer to the turbo.

Very first A4 B7 GVT 01X swap, facelift uprights with B7 axles, compatible with B5 master cylinder (metal upgrade).

Sandblasted it, epoxy coated, ceramic coated bolts:

Took the chunky, odd, large B7 axle shields and cut out, smoothed and shortened them:

A B7 trans bolts perfectly to a 1.8t, however there's bell housing gaps exposing the spinning flywheel. Took a ~3'x3' 16g steel sheet and made a shim:

B7 dp hanger flipped upside down and extended ~3" to fit my oversized exhuast, you can use the 01X hanger bung, made a custom spring system so the dp can float a little:

Ditched the AWE DTS in favor of Tyler's DTS so we're on the same page

We are not utilizing our oem transmission mounts, as it stands our motor/trans assemblies are ~balanced on an upside down pedestal (per say). The rear trans is balanced on a single central mounted puck, with no ability to control ~yaw/pitch. I'll most likely be fabing a bracing system based off the B5 trans design which bolts to the trans casting, tied into the unused trans mount pucks, with a bonus of an under brace tie-ing both trans mounts together, yet also bracing/boxing in the ~central part portion of the subframe as a bonus, and sending one up to Tyler.

Up next for both of us is finalizing are VSS signal which will most likely be a Dakota abs speed sensor unit.

As the trans swap stands, it could be driven right now (I'd just current have no VSS signal). The sidebracing/ underbracing isn't necessary to drive, yet will just shore up any ~laterally movement. A 3" exhaust will clear the larger B7 casing.

    So, if I understand correctly:

Your current drivetrain mount setup is pretty much a stock B6 A4 3-point mounting system (not counting snub mount). And you are not quite satisfied, so plan to add 2 more mounts to this for a total of 5 mount points?

Also: Me Rikey the spring-loaded OE style downpipe mount. That's a nice touch.

Building it to last my life, also N2MB Wot box + FT.

In conjunction building a custom...well...you'll see and worked of fabing up something yesterday which isn't common to keep things under control. Shored up the undercarriage and exhaust system:

Beefed up custom undercarriage tunnel brace, additional exhaust hanger and secondary flex section (another located in dp).

Manifold exhaust brace system, drilled and tapped the engine bracket:
