    Is the Black-Red interior desirable?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking at a few B8.5 S4s and one has the black-red two tone interior. What is the general consensus on it? I'm not sure how I feel personally, I suppose I wouldn't mind it if it would be easy to re-sell down the line. What are your thoughts?

    Cheers

    Is the Black-Red interior desirable?

I wanted it but not enough to end up paying a premium for it. I almost traded my all black for it after because the person did not really love it.

It's all subjective. I do think with any type of color combo/contrast you limit your resale market.

Personally not a fan, there are plenty of guys out there that like the red though.

I bought a 2014 recently with it and absolutely love it. I get complements all the time. Pictures usually make it look too bright. In person it's a little deeper and looks great. The red contrast stitching is the icing on the cake.

I hate the look of the red in pictures for some reason but in person it's almost a whole different color.

    Love it. But I'm bias.
White/Black unless brand new or meticulously maintained always looks dirty.
All black is OK - a bit boring if you ask me. Everyone has all black leather interiors.
The S4 seats are great looking and I think the two tone colors show them off nicely. As for resell - doubt one will fetch a higher price than the other, but the two tone will be more unique perhaps vs all black.

When I was looking for an S4, I was trying to find something with an all black or black / alcantara interior. Found a phantom black pearl B8.5 with the magma interior. Great deal so I jumped on it despite the seats. Grew to really love it. As others have said it looks bad in most pictures, but in person it looks really good. In my case the black/red theme runs inside and out

I love the black/red interior. I just hate all leather, so I stick with the all black alcantara interior.

The only two-tone interior that commands a premium is the panda interior, mostly due to to the rich history and dashing good looks. Panda is White/black leather. 99% of people will not pay a premium for the magma.

Personally i'm not a fan of the magma interiors. I went with Black/Black Alcantara.

I ended up really liking it. As stated it looks better in person. I was up in the air when I was buying the car because I was think it was too flashy but its not the case.
For an S car it is also somewhat fitting.

There are less of them out there, but that makes it more desirable to the right people. A non-enthusiast who for whatever reason decides to buy the black on black DSG because it was the first car he found close by will be nowhere near as exited as the enthusiast looking for the EXACT car he want in the exact color scheme he desires. Those are the kinds of people who will seek out the red interior and fly across the country to buy it.

I've gone through this very scenario several times, personally. For the record, I have the Tuscan Brown interior, which I love. Red would have been my second choice.

I don't believe the red will have a notable negative impact on ease of selling when the time comes.. I'm a fan- it gives the car some more character without being overwhelming or obnoxious IMO.

love the red black Napa option and it was one of the selling points on my moonlight blue car. gives the interior a bit of an Italian feel IMO.

Not sure if it is super rare, but I have the Chestnut/Black Combo... I thought the Red/Black would look better with the car being Glacier white but the Chestnut I think pops and looks great. I think the two tone interiors look great but can understand why some would be good with, say a all black interior and such.

    Is the Black-Red interior desirable?

I wanted Sepang on Magma/black, but had to special order it and was told by a multitude of people that that color combo would have a horrible time reselling. Fwiw.

Also my wife nixed the hell out of it and thought it was ugly.

I still love it. But ended up with Sepang on Lunar/black.

It is not for "everyone" - for me 2 tone interior has killed the purchase for me
Light color interiors + my OCD to keep it clean ... another factor as lighter interior to keep clean and give appearance of new .... is a PITA

    Agreed on this

I do find the resale value on the red / black and white / black to be lower too in general as well, even if you have say a car that works with it.

This is exactly what I have. When I bought my car, they also had a Glacier White with the white alcantara/black interior. It already looked dingy to me and it was clean. I guess it was the suede texture. All I could think was "that would be hell to keep clean". I don't need that negativity in my life! I was happy to have something not all black or all beige and it's still working for me. Definitely go see one in person. My wife and I both said no to the pictures, but instantly loved it in person.

To give you an idea, I have Black Alcantara, and if there was someone in North Dakota with this set that didn't want it, I would trade them. Think that interior is awesome.

On the contrast, my cousin just got the same car I did and he hates the idea of those seats.. So to each their own!

IMHO, I think any of the two tone interior color combos (whether it be in all leather or leather/alcantara), make the car more sporty/interesting. I know I really miss the Panda from my 2011, and find the all black in my 2015, sort of blah now.

Yes, it is fantastic and actually is a deeper red color than most photos; I was surprised seeing it in person. Actually, I was a bit disappointed that it did not look like the photos. I looked long and hard to find the right car with it. So far, my only regret is not finding an Estriol, Sepang, or Sprint Blue exterior to go with it (those are unicorns) and in two years of searching only came across two used cars with that combo nationwide -- and those had higher mileage than I was looking for.

With the other options I wanted - sport diff/6MT - and closeness to me being important, I was pretty limited and ended up with red/black interior with ibis white, 2016 - neither of which (white with that interior) would have been my preference. However it's all really grown on me. I'd previously had a Sepang Blue with the black/lunar alcantara interior and although I really like alcantara, the nappa leather is a very nice upgrade, IMO.

With regards to resale, I think at this point people who want a B8/8.5 will likely not put a premium on aesthetics so much as just getting a well taken-care-of S4.

Car i ended up buying came with red which has really grown on me. In pics it looks like a bit much but driving it daily I like it alot. And red is one of my least favorite colors.

I love mine, actually sought out the white with red/black interior. Super easy to keep clean.

Something about all black interior is just boring to me. Panda would be neat (especially on a Sephang) but must be a pain to keep clean.

    Is the Black-Red interior desirable?

I had a S5 cab sepang blue with black n silver leather seats was a sharp
    Looking ride.
I almost went with the red
Interior in a blue S4 however the seats seem to have too much red.
Went for Daytona gray pearl with rotor gray napp leather.

I always thought they were more desirable, but I can't speak for every one.
I've got a phantom black S4 with the magma interior and I absolutely love it. On any other color I probably would have been fine with all black interior, but black on black would have been too much for me. I was buying an Audi with the "S" in front of it and IMO the magma seats look the sportiest of them all.
Mine also has the carbon atlas trim which I think goes a lot better with magma than the silver trim.

I constantly get compliments about my "red" seats. Even my father who's really conservative opened my car door and said "ohh that interior!"

I love it when you have a blue exterior color and a red interior. I know on bimmers they all it the superman package. I would pay extra for that!!

I personally really like the red interior. If it with a 6 speed I would really pay premium on it.

This is one aspect that I personally really like about the B9; they dropped the two-tone shenanigans for the magma seats. Yes, the rear of the seat is black, but the leather is all one color. The two-tone just ruins it for me, but its all personal preference. Some seek it out, others avoid.
