    Rough idle

Looking for some help here. 2016 S6, I have owned the car since 18k miles (about 30k miles now) and it's always had a bit of an intermittent rough idle. I changed the plugs to the updated Audi versions and there was a significant improvement in the on throttle performance but not much difference at idle. The tune doesn't seem to make a difference, I have run two stock revisions (001 and 002) and tunes from two different companies and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Is it normal for this engine to have random rough idle moments or am i dealing with a weak coil or something else?

There are no codes for a misfire.

My 2014 does the same thing. Haven't investigated further at this point as it hasn't been bothersome enough to me but the issue is definitely there. Just got new plugs at 30k and it didn't make a difference. Running APR Stage 2 and its unchanged from stock or EPL stage 1 as far as I can tell.

This is not something I have heard being mentioned at lot. How rough is rough? My 2016 S6 does not have a dead smooth idle, but I would never call it rough.

Interesting that changing the plugs made a difference to your throttle performance. I wonder if this could explain why sometimes my car just seems to lack power.

I would say it's not dead smooth, as you put it. Nothing truly rough for me

Intermittent rough. Smooth idle with a series of 1-3 "misfires" you can feel it shake the car a little and hear it in the exhaust note. Sounds like incomplete combustion.

If I'm in drive/reverse it's a consistent idle but in park it's slightly rough, as you described. 2014 a6 3.0 Stage 1 EPL currently but idle was same with stock tune. 47k miles, hoping plugs would help.

I feel this every so often in mine as well...mostly smooth idle but intermittently some shake here and there. It's not too common for me

If you feel ambitious move your coil packs around and see if the trend follows in particular CYL 5 1 and 6.

There is a thread here about motor mounts needing to be replaced in our cars. Rough idle seems to be one symptom. You may want to check that or read through that thread.

Any update on this? I’ve been having the same issue. Did brand new oem vwag coil packs and oem spark plugs correctly gapped and slight improvement but once sitting for a while idle gets rough enough to shake the whole car like a light cam. I can hear it from the exhaust as well. Been chasing it for a year and a half and afraid to tune the car or anything with the roughness. When checking misfires on each cylinder on 2-3 or so it’s close or into the 6,xxx misfire range which can’t be normal.
