There's a difference between smooth and fair...
House painting is easy in respect of fair as most finishes are flat or satin which don't show irregularities or not being "fair" ,always use flat and not even satin if the surface is dodgy
Not so with cars of course which are invariably high gloss which accentuates every error
Smooth to my way of thinking means no crap on the surface to be painted which in a house is also pretty irrelevant..
