    Fault code help P1068

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys just bought a 2009 S5 V8 and having some trouble figuring out some codes. I know some are just from LED lighting in the car, but the following are of concern:

    P1068
    P1571
    P0196
    P1373

After some research I've determined I need a ignition service kit from ECS and 034 Density Mounts.

However the air intake N335 issue and oil temp sensor issue don't seem to have many answers.

Anyone have some insight on what needs replacing/checking?

Here's the car by the way:

Anyone ever deal with these before?

Do you have a stock airbox? The N335 valve is on the bottom. If it's gone, or just not plugged in all the way, that'll throw the code.

I can't even find the G8 oil temp sensor on the factory schematics. Does your app have a way to show the VW code for that rather than the OBD code? I'm wondering if the description is wrong or something. The schematics show the "oil level thermal sensor" as G266. It's on the bottom of the oil pan. Maybe the sensor or the harness got damaged?

Most of the rest of the stuff looks like conseqences of mods like the LEDs and facelift. The fuel cap error means the locking solenoid is busted. My car has the same codes. I need to go order a replacement.

I do have the stock air box, I'll check that in a little bit thats good to know. Unfortunately no, there is no way to see the VW specific code. I'm going to buy a VCDS soon though because I think its really worth having for this car. The fuel cap code comes and goes but it works fine so I'm just kind of ignoring that.

Where does the plug for the n335 originate? I can't seem to find it at all

I think the harness runs along the passenger side frame rail, and then that specific plug branches across to the bottom of the airbox.

If you reach underneath the front corner of the airbox, you should feel a corrugated tube, and right near that is the electrical connector.

If you peel back the wheel well liner, you should be able to see it all. Popping out the fog light grille might work too.

I did mange to find it but when I connected it and started the car it looks like several things blew on a relay or fuse
ESP, Parking break and mass air flow errors all occured

Where would I find the relay? And how much of a difference would it make If I just removed the intake box completely and went short ram? This seems like a silly set up.

Your car is cursed. That's weird as hell. The The ESP, parking brake and MAF aren't even on the same circuit.

That valve opens a 2nd flap in the airbox when the engine is over 5000rpm or your speed is over 155mph. I can't imagine it'd cause that much of a power loss to just leave it disconnected. I think you'll suffer more by having an open element sucking in hot engine bay air.

Did you unplug the MAF and if so are you sure you got the plug seated? An unplugged MAF will send those errors out as the software is interconnected with those functions. So it shuts them all down.

I am positive, once I disconnected the n335 again and cleared codes evertyhing went back to normal. The second flap looks like it should have a vaccum line going to it or something but does not. Just got my VCDS from europaparts, going to investigate further

I really want everything to work on this car so I guess I'm going on an electrical hunt lol

Finally took the next step in being able to do some diagnostics myself, here is a full auto scan. All of this seems pretty individual or at least I cant find the connection.

Only noticeable symptoms of engine problems are occassionaly it will shift poorly, idle crappy when cold and the car does not accelerate properly and feels restricted. Oil sensor tells me car is too full, dip stick disagrees. No over heating, I can hear my radiator fans running, kicking on and off when they are supposed to. I'm confused.

I don't think 08-09 had a working virtual oil level sensor. You can enable it in the MMI, but it doesn't read correctly.

The engine hesitation could be the intake manifold flap. The P2019 code. Look around in the diagnostics for the engine computer. There might be tests in there for the intake flaps. It could also be an electrical short related to the failed engine mount. My car acted really weird when one of my mounts failed. It was almost undrivable. I think the hydraulic goo in the mount is electrically conductive.

Makes sense, once I cleared all modules only the N335 valve issue, Motor mount issue, and Oil sensor issue returned after a spirited drive. I am going to take it to get the motor mounts done, and check my MMI to see if that oil setting is enabled for some reason and shouldnt be.

I got this code (2010 S5 6spd, 70,000miles) and it turned out that the manifold flap was stuck due to a vacuum leak. That was much cheaper than some of the other possibilities - like replacing the manifold...

Check for a leak - maybe it's simple

I will dig through VCDS to see if I can test it. I wouldnt be super surprised, I've already fixed a couple leaks on this car, theyre just getting harder to find lol

And theres small deposits of oil In my plug wells, and I'm concerned about that as well. Should I be?

Given the mileage, I wouldn't worry too much. The gasket is probably just getting old.

The valve cover gaskets for these cars are actually really reasonable. $19 left, $23 right.
