    First Audi, New 2017 SQ5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just checking in after my wife and I became Audi owners Saturday for the first time.

The time had come (according to my wife and kids) to say goodbye to my daily driver, a 2004 RAV4 with 177,000 miles. I kept promising I would get a new car as soon as something broke on the RAV4, but nothing would ever break on that Toyota. So they all had enough and pushed the issue for me.

We looked at all the smaller SUVs from all the major companies, and then eventually headed to the Audi dealer to look at the new Q5. But my wife actually did not like the new virtual dashboard. The sales manager then mentioned he had a leftover, but new, 17 SQ5 they really wanted to move. We went for a test drive and both knew that was it.

As I am reading stuff now I think our SQ5 is pretty loaded . . . its white with the black optics package, 21 inch wheels, red brake calipers, supercharged badges, the technology package, carbon atlas inlays, nappa leather with gray diamond stitching, and the protection package with the all weather mats.

I think we got a fair deal, as the vehicle listed for $61,775 and we got it for $51,075. We got $750 off for owning a BMW and $2250 off for financing with Audi. The dealer then discounted a bit over $7000 more. We also then got $3300 for the Toyota (which I think I might have been able to sell privately for $4500). Also noticed the window sticker started at about $64k but Audi had an $850 technology credit and a $1450 premium equipment credit.

We have owned over 30 cars, many of those "luxury" brands, and this interior is probably the nicest of them all. Also pretty surprised with the power in this SUV (and I also own a Corvette).

I was keeping the Toyota because I really didn't need to make a change just to go to work. It was the car my kids learned to drive on, that I let them take to college, and that we drive our Great Dane around in. But I knew the time had come to get something new. I think I'm going to be very happy with this beautiful SQ5.

    Craig

Sounds like you got a great deal OP! Congrats on the new ride too. Being that you mentioned a dog, I suggest a Canvasback liner with the sides for the trunk, if you plan to let the great dane in the SQ.

Thanks "bakedziti", but we still have a 2008 Mazda CX-9 to take the dog. We love her, but I doubt she will ever even sniff that diamond stitched upholstery in this new Audi.

(ps - had a 70 MGB once . . . British Racing Green of course)

Congratulations for getting a great price on a great vehicle. The previous generation is superior to the new ones except for the technology, which your wife didn't like. Sounds like one of those "meant-to-be" deals.

Now we just need pictures, and your plans for it.

Congrats! I also picked up a 2017 due to the changes which were being implemented in the 2018 (1st Manufacturing year, new manufacturing location, and some design changes I did not care for). Like SQive mentioned, the new tech in the 2018 is nice, but only if its important to you. It;s great you were still able to find a new 2017.

Thanks. Honestly, a 2017 SQ5 wasn't even on the radar when we went to look at the '18 Q5. But I'm really glad we found it. And I didn't even know about the new Mexico assembly plant until I started surfing the web last night.

That said, we are keeping our 2012 BMW 3 series convertible with its smooth 6 cylinder motor because my wife didn't want the newer 4cyl Turbo version. Same exact story with our 6 cylinder Mazda CX-9, which now also comes with a 4cyl Turbo. . And I am keeping my lower tech C6 Corvette because I don't like the design changes GM made in the newest C7 generation. Now I've just bought a last generation SQ5 over the newest model.

So . . . are we just getting difficult in old age, are all the new vehicles slipping just a bit ??

Thanks . . . gotta figure out how to post pics now that Photobucket has changed its pricing and policies. Right now my plans are to keep it all as it came . . . my first Audi so I'm not in a rush to change it . . . yet.

You can just post them to the picture section here. They even provide the link for you.

And yes. . .on both counts. We become set in our ways, and it seems that all the new vehicles are going through a suck cycle.

So, glacier white then? The '17 BO looks so different with the wheels, mirrors and spoiler.

Just looked at the sticker, it says Ibis White . . . not sure what that means but its a pretty bright white.

Also, sorry but not that up on the different varieties of the black optics, but the wheels are painted all black except the aluminum "spokes" . . . not sure I'm a fan yet.

Yeah, thanks, I'm not worried either because it seemed to be a pretty good deal, and I really like the SQ5 . . . BUT I am sure I gave them at least $1000 back, and maybe a bunch more, on my RAV4 trade for $3300, which was running perfectly, in excellent condition, and just got all new Kuhmo tires and OEM brakes and suspension about 10,000 miles ago.

(The sales manager even told me there was a strong demand for good used cars between $5k and $10k, and he would have no problem selling my car.)

But I am very pleased with my deal.

Glacier is metallic. Ibis is more of the solid white....and looks better with the BO.

'17 was the only year they did the black inside the wheels, on the mirrors, the rear spoiler and door handles (don't get this one). Might have been the only year for the black rear valence too.

Congrats! Great purchase. You will enjoy the shit outta this car. A little lowering and wheel spacers and some European headlights really change the look further if you want to go there. Also, looks sweet stock. Good luck!

    Ok, thanks for that info..

Funny, I barely paid attention to the whole "Black Optics" package, or for that matter the red calipers either . . . . was much more excited by the really sharp combination of the black nappa leather with the silver diamond stitiching and the carbon fiber inlays on the dash and console. Now I guess I'm starting to appreciate the whole package.

(ps - I don't get the black door handle thing either)

Congrats , it looks great and what a deal!

I noticed you mentioned parts of maryland.

Please notice that the 21in wheels come with summer tires, so when winter comes along you need a back up plan.
